Peugeot RCZ I Indicators: Orange Warnings (2015-present)

Orange warning lights on your Peugeot RCZ explained: what each lamp means and what to do, from the service light to low fuel, ABS and tyre pressure.

Orange warning lamps on your Peugeot RCZ tell you about a fault or the status of a system. When one of these lamps comes on while the engine is running or you are driving, it usually points to a fault that needs action from you. The lamp is always accompanied by a message, and sometimes by an audible signal, to help you identify the problem.

This guide covers the first-generation Peugeot RCZ, based on handbook edition ed01-15 for cars produced from 1 February 2015 onwards. Some lamps and displays depend on your version, engine or equipment, so you may not see all of them on your car.

Braking

Braking warning lamp icon

This is the braking warning lamp. When it stays on together with the STOP and ABS warning lamps, it means the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) system has a fault.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Service

Service warning lamp icon

The service warning lamp covers faults that have no warning lamp of their own. It works in two ways.

If it comes on temporarily, a minor fault has occurred. If it stays on, a major fault has occurred.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on temporarily (minor fault):

  • Read the message on the screen to identify the fault. Examples include an open door, boot or bonnet, low engine oil level, low screenwash level, a flat remote control battery or a fault with the tyre under-inflation detection system.
  • If the message shows the particle emission filter is saturated (Diesel), regenerate the filter as soon as traffic allows by driving at a speed of at least 36 mph (60 km/h) until the service warning lamp goes off.
  • For any other fault, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on (major fault):

  • Read the message on the screen to identify the fault.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine autodiagnosis system

Engine autodiagnosis system warning lamp icon

This lamp reports faults with the engine systems and can flash or stay on.

If it flashes, the engine management system has a fault. If it stays on, the emission control system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • Be aware that there is a risk of destroying the catalytic converter.
  • Have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on:

  • The lamp should go off once the engine has started.
  • If it does not go off, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Low fuel level

Low fuel level warning lamp icon

This is the low fuel warning lamp. It stays on with the fuel gauge needle in the red zone, together with an audible signal and a message. When it first comes on, there are approximately 5 litres of fuel left in the tank and you are starting to use the fuel reserve.

What to do:

  • Refuel as soon as possible so you do not run out of fuel. The tank holds approximately 55 litres.
  • Until you add enough fuel, the lamp, audible signal and message will come on every time you switch on the ignition, and they repeat more often as the level drops towards "0".
  • Never keep driving until the tank is empty, as this could damage the emission control and injection systems.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) warning lamp icon

This is the ABS warning lamp. If it stays on, the anti-lock braking system has a fault. Your car still has conventional braking.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully at reduced speed.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Dynamic stability control (dSC/ASR)

Dynamic stability control (dSC/ASR) warning lamp iconDynamic stability control (dSC/ASR) warning lamp icon

This lamp relates to the DSC/ASR system and can flash or stay on.

If it flashes, the DSC/ASR system is working. It optimises traction and improves the directional stability of your car if it loses grip or starts to leave its intended path. If it stays on, the DSC/ASR system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • No action is needed, as the system is doing its job.

If the lamp stays on:

  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Under-inflation

Under-inflation warning lamp iconUnder-inflation warning lamp icon

This lamp relates to the tyre pressures and the tyre pressure monitoring system.

If it stays on, the pressure in one or more tyres is too low. If it flashes and then stays on, together with the Service warning lamp, the tyre pressure monitoring system has a fault or no sensor has been detected on one of the wheels.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on (low pressure):

  • Check your tyre pressures as soon as possible.
  • Ideally, check them when the tyres are cold.

If the lamp flashes and then stays on (system fault):

  • Be aware that under-inflation detection is no longer guaranteed.
  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Rear foglamp

This is the rear foglamp indicator. It stays on when you have switched on the rear foglamp using the ring on the lighting control stalk.

What to do:

  • To switch off the rear foglamp, turn the ring on the lighting control stalk towards the rear.

Diesel engine pre-heating

Diesel engine pre-heating warning lamp icon

This is the Diesel pre-heating lamp. It stays on when the key is at position 2 (ignition on) in the ignition switch.

What to do:

  • Wait until the lamp goes off before you start the engine. How long it stays on depends on the weather, and can be up to about thirty seconds in very cold conditions.
  • If the engine does not start, switch the ignition off and back on, wait for the lamp to go off again, then start the engine.

Passenger's front airbag

Passenger's front airbag warning lamp iconPassenger's front airbag warning lamp icon

This indicator appears in the seat belt and passenger's front airbag warning lamps display and shows whether the passenger's front airbag is on or off. The control switch is on the passenger's side of the dashboard.

If the ON indicator is lit, the switch is set to "ON" and the passenger's front airbag is activated, so you must not fit a rearward facing child seat. If the OFF indicator is lit, the switch is set to "OFF" and the airbag is deactivated, so you can fit a rearward facing child seat on the front seat.

What to do:

If the ON indicator is lit:

  • Keep the airbag activated while there is no rearward facing child seat on the front passenger seat.
  • Before fitting a rearward facing child seat, turn the control switch to "OFF".

If the OFF indicator is lit:

  • Always deactivate the airbag before fitting a rearward facing child seat on the front seat.
  • When no rearward facing child seat is fitted, reactivate the airbag by setting the control switch to "ON".

If You're Not Sure

If you are not sure what a lamp means, read the message shown on the screen, as it will help you identify the fault. If a lamp that normally goes off after starting stays on, check its section in this guide before you move off. If you are still unsure, stop somewhere safe and contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Most orange lamps on your Peugeot RCZ are there to tell you that something needs your attention, so take note of the message and act on it. Keep your handbook in the car and get any faults checked so you can keep driving safely.
