Peugeot RCZ I Indicators: Orange Warnings (2009-2015)

What each orange warning light on the Peugeot RCZ I (2009-2015) means, from the service and engine lamps to tyre pressure, and what you should do.

Orange lamps on your instrument panel either warn you about a fault or tell you that a system is working or has been switched off on purpose. Some come on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition and should go off once the engine starts. If one stays on before you move off, or lights up while you are driving, check what it means below. A message on the screen and sometimes an audible signal will help you identify the fault.

This guide covers the Peugeot RCZ I (2009-2015). It is based on the handbook edition for cars produced from 1 October 2013. Some lamps only appear on certain versions or with certain equipment, so your car may not show every lamp listed here.

Braking

Braking warning lamp icon

This is the braking warning lamp. When it stays on together with the STOP and ABS warning lamps, the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) system has a fault.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Service

Service warning lamp icon

This is the service warning lamp. If it comes on for a short time, a minor fault has occurred that has no warning lamp of its own. If it stays on, a major fault has occurred that has no warning lamp of its own.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on temporarily:

  • Read the message on the screen to identify the fault, for example a door, the boot or the bonnet being open, a low engine oil level, a low screenwash level, a flat remote control battery or a fault with the tyre under-inflation detection system.
  • If the message says the particle emission filter is saturated (Diesel), regenerate the filter as soon as traffic conditions allow by driving at 36 mph (60 km/h) or more until the service lamp goes off.
  • For any other fault, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on:

  • Read the message on the screen to identify the fault.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine autodiagnosis system

Engine autodiagnosis system warning lamp icon

This is the engine autodiagnosis warning lamp. If it flashes, the engine management system has a fault. If it stays on, the emission control system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • Be aware that there is a risk of destroying the catalytic converter.
  • Have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on:

  • The lamp should go off when you start the engine.
  • If it does not go off, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Low fuel level

Low fuel level warning lamp icon

This is the low fuel level warning lamp. It stays on with the fuel gauge needle in the red zone, together with an audible signal and a message. When it first comes on, there are about 5 litres of fuel left in the tank and you have started using the reserve. The tank holds about 55 litres.

What to do:

  • Refuel as soon as possible so you do not run out.
  • Until you add enough fuel, the lamp, signal and message will return each time you switch on the ignition, and the signal and message will repeat more often as the level drops towards zero.
  • Never keep driving until the tank is empty, as this could damage the emission control and injection systems.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) warning lamp icon

This is the ABS warning lamp. When it stays on, the anti-lock braking system has a fault. Your car still has conventional braking.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully at a reduced speed.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Dynamic stability control (DSC/ASR)

Dynamic stability control (DSC/ASR) warning lamp iconDynamic stability control (DSC/ASR) warning lamp icon

This is the DSC/ASR lamp. If it flashes, the system is working to improve traction and keep the car stable when grip or its path is lost. If it stays on, the DSC/ASR system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • Nothing for you to do: the system is optimising traction and improving the car's directional stability.

If the lamp stays on:

  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Under-inflation

Under-inflation warning lamp iconUnder-inflation warning lamp icon

This is the tyre under-inflation lamp. If it stays on, the pressure in one or more tyres is too low. If it flashes and then stays on together with the service warning lamp, the tyre pressure monitoring system has a fault or a sensor is not detected on one of the wheels.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on:

  • Check your tyre pressures as soon as possible.
  • Ideally, check them when the tyres are cold.

If the lamp flashes and then stays on with the service lamp:

  • Remember that under-inflation detection is no longer guaranteed.
  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Rear foglamp

This is the rear foglamp indicator. When it stays on, your rear foglamp is switched on.

What to do:

  • To switch off the rear foglamp, turn the ring on the lighting stalk rearwards.

Diesel engine pre-heating

Diesel engine pre-heating warning lamp icon

This is the diesel pre-heating lamp. It stays on when the ignition switch is in the second position, with the ignition on. How long it stays on depends on the weather conditions.

What to do:

  • Wait until the lamp goes off before you start the engine.

Passenger's front airbag

Passenger's front airbag warning lamp iconPassenger's front airbag warning lamp icon

This lamp appears in the seat belt and passenger's front airbag warning lamps display. One version stays on when the control switch on the passenger's side of the dashboard is set to ON, meaning the passenger's front airbag is activated and you must not fit a rearward facing child seat. The other version stays on when the switch is set to OFF, meaning the airbag is deactivated and you can fit a rearward facing child seat on the front seat.

What to do:

If the lamp shows the airbag is activated (ON):

  • Keep the airbag activated while there is no rearward facing child seat on the front passenger seat.
  • Before fitting a rearward facing child seat, turn the control switch to OFF.

If the lamp shows the airbag is deactivated (OFF):

  • Always make sure the airbag is deactivated before fitting a rearward facing child seat on the front seat.
  • When no rearward facing child seat is fitted, reactivate the airbag by setting the control switch to ON.

If You're Not Sure

If you are not sure what a lamp means, read the message shown on the screen, as it will help you identify the fault. If you still have a problem, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop, and if the car does not feel right, stop somewhere safe first.

Most orange lamps give you time to act, but they should never be ignored. Read the message on the screen, follow the steps above and have any fault checked so your RCZ stays safe and reliable.
