An orange warning lamp on your instrument panel means a system has a fault that needs looking into, or that a function is working, switched off or on standby. Some orange lamps come on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition and should go off as soon as the engine starts. A lamp may also come with an audible signal or a message on the screen, and the way it lights up, steady or flashing, tells you what is going on.

This guide covers the Peugeot Expert III van and applies to vehicles built from 4 March 2024. Some lamps only appear on certain versions, engines or equipment levels, so you may not see every one on your van.

Service

Service warning light

This is the orange Service warning lamp. It comes on with a message on the instrument panel when the van detects a fault that has no warning lamp of its own. How it lights up, and the message shown, tell you how serious the fault is.

What to do:

If it comes on temporarily with a message, one or more minor faults have been detected:

  • Read the message on the instrument panel to find the cause.
  • You may be able to sort some faults yourself, such as changing the battery in the remote control.
  • For other faults, such as a problem with the tyre under-inflation detection system, go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it stays on with a message, one or more major faults have been detected:

  • Read the message on the instrument panel to find the cause.
  • Then go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it stays on with the message “Audible Warning System fault: Repair needed”, the audible warning system has failed:

  • Road signs recognition, Active Safety Brake/Collision Risk Alert, lane keeping assist and Driver Attention Warning by Camera may be disturbed or unavailable.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Release not available (with electric parking brake)

Service warning light

This is the orange Service warning lamp, shown on vans with an electric parking brake. When it stays on with the message “Parking brake fault”, automatic release of the electric parking brake is not available.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Service

This alert uses the orange Service warning lamp together with the service spanner. The Service lamp stays on while the spanner flashes and then stays on, which means the servicing interval has been exceeded. This alert applies only to BlueHDi Diesel engines.

What to do:

  • Have your van serviced as soon as possible.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

Amber brake warning light

This is the orange ABS warning lamp. When it stays on, the anti-lock braking system has a fault. Your van still has conventional braking.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully at a moderate speed.
  • Then go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

AdBlue® (Euro 6.4)

Scr emissions warning light

This is the orange AdBlue® warning lamp. It warns you as the AdBlue® level drops, and the way it lights up tells you how much driving range is left before the engine can no longer be started.

What to do:

If it comes on for around 30 seconds when you start the van, with a message showing the driving range, you have between 1,500 and 500 miles (2,400 and 800 km) left:

  • Top up the AdBlue®.

If it stays on when you switch on the ignition, with an audible signal and a range message, you have between 500 and 62 miles (800 and 100 km) left:

  • Top up the AdBlue® promptly, or go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it flashes with an audible signal and a range message, you have less than 62 miles (100 km) left:

  • You must top up the AdBlue® to stop the engine being prevented from starting, or go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it flashes with an audible signal and a message saying starting is prevented, the AdBlue® tank is empty and the legally required immobiliser stops the engine from starting:

  • To restart the engine, top up the AdBlue® or contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
  • You must add at least 10 litres of AdBlue® to the tank.

SCR emissions control system (BlueHDi)

Scr emissions warning lightService warning lightAmber engine warning light

This alert uses the orange AdBlue®, Service and Engine self-diagnostics warning lamps together. It tells you the SCR emissions control system has a malfunction, and in the later stages that the engine will soon be, or already is, prevented from starting.

What to do:

If the lamps stay on when you switch on the ignition, with an audible signal and a message, a malfunction of the SCR emissions control system has been detected:

  • The alert goes off once the exhaust emissions return to normal levels.

If the AdBlue® lamp flashes when you switch on the ignition, with the Service and Engine self-diagnostics lamps on steady, an audible signal and a range message, you can drive for up to 685 miles (1,100 km), depending on the message, before the immobiliser is triggered:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay, to avoid the engine being prevented from starting.

If the same lamps come on with a message saying starting is prevented, the permitted driving limit has been exceeded and the immobiliser stops the engine from restarting:

  • To start the engine, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine self-diagnostic system (Diesel)

Amber engine warning lightService warning lightRed stop warning light

This is the orange Engine self-diagnostics warning lamp on Diesel vans. Depending on whether it flashes or stays on, and which other lamps come on with it, it points to an engine management, emissions control or engine fault.

What to do:

If the Engine self-diagnostics lamp flashes, the engine management system has a fault and there is a risk of destroying the catalytic converter:

  • You must contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the Engine self-diagnostics lamp stays on, the emissions control system has a fault:

  • The lamp should go off when the engine is started.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

If the Engine self-diagnostics lamp stays on with the Service warning lamp, a minor engine fault has been detected:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the major engine fault lamps shown for this case stay on, a major engine fault has been detected:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Then contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Automatic functions deactivated (electric parking brake)

Electric parking brake auto off indicator

This is the orange electric parking brake automatic functions lamp. When it stays on, automatic application of the parking brake when you switch off the engine, and automatic release when you accelerate, are deactivated.

What to do:

If automatic application and release no longer work, follow these steps:

  • Start the engine, apply the electric parking brake using the control, take your foot fully off the brake pedal, then hold the control in the release direction for between 10 and 15 seconds and let go.
  • Press and hold the brake pedal, then pull the control in the application direction for 2 seconds.
  • Let go of the control and the brake pedal.

Malfunction (with electric parking brake)

Electric parking brake fault warning lightService warning lightElectric parking brake auto off indicator

This is the orange electric parking brake fault lamp, which comes on steady with the message “Parking brake fault”. Which other lamps come on with it tells you whether the control or the whole electric parking brake is affected.

What to do:

If it comes on with the Service warning lamp, the van cannot be held stationary by the parking brake with the engine running:

  • If the manual apply and release commands do not work, the electric parking brake control is faulty.
  • Use the automatic functions at all times: they switch back on automatically if the control develops a fault.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it comes on with the automatic functions lamp and the Service warning lamp, the electric parking brake is faulty and both the manual and automatic functions may not work:

  • When stationary, pull the electric parking brake control and hold it for about 7 to 15 seconds, until the indicator lamp lights up on the instrument panel.
  • If that does not work, park on a level surface and, with a manual gearbox, engage a gear.
  • Then contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Under-inflation

Tyre pressure warning lightService warning light

This is the orange tyre under-inflation lamp. On its own it warns of low tyre pressure. With the Service lamp it means the monitoring system itself is faulty.

What to do:

If it stays on with an audible signal and a message, the pressure in one or more tyres is too low:

  • Check the tyre pressures as soon as possible.
  • Once you have adjusted the pressures, reinitialise the detection system.

If it flashes and then stays on, with the Service warning lamp on steady, the tyre pressure monitoring system is faulty and tyre pressures are no longer being monitored:

  • Check the tyre pressures as soon as possible.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine preheating (Diesel)

Diesel preheat indicator

This is the orange engine preheating lamp on Diesel vans. It comes on briefly when you switch on the ignition if the weather and engine temperature make preheating necessary, for up to about 30 seconds in severe weather.

What to do:

  • Wait until the lamp goes off before starting the engine.
  • Once it goes off, the engine starts straight away if you press and hold the clutch pedal (manual gearbox) or the brake pedal (automatic gearbox).
  • If the engine does not start, ask it to start again while keeping your foot on the pedal.

Front passenger airbag (ON)

Passenger airbag on indicator

This is the front passenger airbag ON lamp. When it stays on, the front passenger airbag is activated and its control is set to “ON”.

What to do:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Low fuel level (Diesel)

Amber low fuel warning light

This is the orange low fuel lamp. It stays on with an audible signal, and with the matrix instrument panel the lit blocks flash, while other instrument panels show the reserve level in red with a message. When it first comes on, about 5 litres of fuel are left, and the alert repeats every time you switch on the ignition, more often as the tank gets closer to empty.

What to do:

  • Refuel without delay so you do not run out of fuel.
  • Never drive until the tank is completely empty, as this could damage the emissions control and injection systems.

Tortoise mode with limited driving range (Electric)

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Particle filter (Diesel)

Particle filter warning light

This is the orange particle filter lamp on Diesel vans. It stays on with an audible signal and a message, and the message tells you whether the filter is nearly full or the additive level is low.

What to do:

If the message warns of a risk of particle filter blockage, the filter is nearly saturated:

  • As soon as traffic allows, regenerate the filter by driving at 37 mph (60 km/h) or more, with the engine above 2,500 rpm, until the lamp goes off.

If the message says the additive level in the particle filter is too low, the additive tank has reached its low level:

  • Have the additive topped up without delay at a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Power steering

Amber power steering warning light

This is the orange power steering lamp. When it stays on, a minor fault in the power steering has been detected.
