A red warning lamp on your dashboard usually means a fault that needs attention, and some of them mean you must stop as soon as it is safe to do so. A few red lamps simply tell you about something you need to deal with, such as an open door or an applied parking brake. Some red lamps also come on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition. This is normal, and they should go off as soon as the engine starts.

This guide covers the red warning lamps on the Peugeot Partner III van (2018-2021). It is and applies to vehicles built from 1 October 2019. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your van, so you may not see every one listed here.

STOP

Red stop warning light

This is the red STOP warning lamp. It stays on together with another warning lamp, and you will also see a message and hear an audible signal. It means a serious fault has been detected with the engine, the braking system, the power steering or the automatic gearbox, or there is a major electrical fault.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine oil pressure

Oil pressure warning light

This is the red engine oil pressure warning lamp. When it stays on, there is a fault with the engine lubrication system.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Brakes

This red brake warning lamp can come on in two different situations. If the brake warning lamp stays on by itself, the brake fluid level has dropped significantly. If the braking lamp stays on together with a second warning lamp, the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) system is faulty.

What to do:

If the brake warning lamp is on by itself (low brake fluid level):

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Top up the brake fluid with fluid that meets the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • If the problem persists, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the braking lamp is on together with the second warning lamp (EBFD fault):

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Parking brake

Electric parking brake indicator

This is the red parking brake warning lamp. When it stays on, the parking brake is applied or has not been fully released.

What to do:

  • Make sure the parking brake is fully released before you drive off.

Maximum engine coolant temperature

Coolant temperature warning light

Depending on the version, this warning appears as a red warning lamp or as an LED. It stays on, and on some versions the temperature needle is also in the red zone. It means the temperature of the cooling system is too high.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Let the engine cool down, then top up the coolant if necessary.
  • If the problem persists, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Battery charge

Battery charge warning light

This is the red battery charge warning lamp. When it stays on, there is a fault in the battery charging circuit. Possible causes include dirty or loose battery terminals, or an alternator belt that is slack or cut.

What to do:

  • Clean the battery terminals and tighten them again.
  • If the lamp does not go off when you start the engine, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Power steering

Red power steering warning light

This is the red power steering warning lamp. When it stays on, there is a fault with the power steering.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully and keep to a moderate speed.
  • Visit a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Seat belts not fastened / unfastened

Red seat belt warning light

This is the red seat belt reminder lamp. It stays on or flashes, and you will hear an audible signal that gets louder. It means a seat belt has not been fastened or has been unfastened (depending on version).

What to do:

  • Make sure every seat belt in use is fastened.

Door open

Red door open warning light

This is the red door open warning lamp. It stays on, and a message tells you which access is open. If you are driving faster than 6 mph (10 km/h), you will also hear an audible signal. It means a door, the boot, the tailgate or the tailgate screen is still open (depending on version).

What to do:

  • Close the door, boot, tailgate or tailgate screen shown in the message.
  • If your van has a right-hand hinged door, bear in mind that this lamp will not warn you when that door is open.

Electric parking brake

Electric parking brake indicator

This is the red electric parking brake lamp. When it stays on, the electric parking brake is applied.

What to do:

  • Release the electric parking brake before you drive off.

If You're Not Sure

If a red lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, stay calm and stop somewhere safe. Check the message on the screen and your handbook. If you still have any doubt, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop before you carry on.

Red lamps on your Partner III van are worth taking seriously, but most are easy to deal with once you know what they mean. Keep this guide handy so you can quickly check what to do when one comes on.
