Peugeot 807 I Indicators: Red Warnings (2007-2012)

Red warning lamps on the Peugeot 807 (2007-2012) explained: what the STOP, oil pressure, coolant, brake, seat belt and battery lights mean and what to do.

Red warning lamps on your Peugeot 807 are warnings you should not ignore. Each time you start the engine, several lamps come on briefly as a self-test and go out almost straight away. If a lamp stays on or flashes while the engine is running, it is a warning. It may come with a beep and a message on the display.

This guide covers the first-generation Peugeot 807 (2007-2012). It is based on the handbook edition for vehicles produced from 1 July 2009. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your car.

STOP

STOP warning lamp icon

This is the red STOP warning lamp. It comes on together with another warning lamp and a message on the display. It signals a major fault linked to the brake fluid level, engine oil pressure, coolant temperature, electronic brake force distribution, power steering or punctured tyre warning lamps.

What to do:

  • Stop somewhere safe and park.
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer.

Handbrake/ Brake fluid level/EBFD

Handbrake/ Brake fluid level/EBFD warning lamp icon

This red lamp covers the handbrake, the brake fluid level and the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD). If it comes on, the handbrake may be applied or not fully released, or the brake fluid level may be low. If it stays on even though the brake fluid level is correct, and the ABS warning lamp is on as well, the EBFD has failed.

What to do:

If the handbrake is applied or not fully released:

  • Release the handbrake fully. The lamp should then go out.
  • See the "Starting and stopping" section in chapter 2 of your handbook.

If the brake fluid level is low:

  • Top up the brake fluid with a fluid recommended by PEUGEOT.

If the lamp stays on with the ABS warning lamp and the fluid level is correct:

  • Stop somewhere safe and park.
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer.

Engine oil pressure

This is the red engine oil pressure warning lamp. If it comes on while you are driving, the oil pressure is too low. If it stays on even though the oil level is correct, there is a major fault.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on while you are driving:

  • Stop somewhere safe, park and switch off the ignition.
  • Let the engine cool down.
  • Check the engine oil level visually. See the "Levels" section in chapter 6 of your handbook.

If the lamp stays on and the oil level is correct:

  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer.

Coolant temperature and level

Coolant temperature and level warning lamp icon

This is the red coolant temperature and level warning lamp. If it is on steadily, the coolant temperature has risen abnormally. If it flashes, the coolant level has dropped.

What to do:

If the lamp is on steadily:

  • Stop somewhere safe, park and switch off the ignition.
  • Let the engine cool down.
  • Check the coolant level visually. See the "Instruments and controls" section in chapter 2 of your handbook.

If the lamp is flashing:

  • See the "Levels" section in chapter 6 of your handbook.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Row 1 seat belt not fastened

Row 1 seat belt not fastened warning lamp icon

This is the red front seat belt warning lamp. If it is on steadily, the driver or a front passenger has not fastened their seat belt. If it flashes with a beep that gets louder, the car is moving and the driver or front passenger seat belt is not fastened.

What to do:

If the lamp is on steadily:

  • Pull the seat belt strap and push the tongue into the buckle.

If the lamp is flashing with a beep:

  • Pull on the strap to check that the seat belt is properly fastened.
  • As the driver, make sure all passengers fasten and use their seat belts correctly.
  • See the "Seat belts" section in chapter 4 of your handbook.

Battery charge

Battery charge warning lamp icon

This is the red battery charge warning lamp. If it is on steadily, there is a fault in the charging circuit. If it flashes, the car has put its active functions on standby (economy mode). If it stays on after you have made the checks, there is a circuit fault or an injection or ignition malfunction.

What to do:

If the lamp is on steadily:

  • Check the battery terminals.
  • See the "Battery" section in chapter 7 of your handbook.

If the lamp is flashing:

  • See the "Battery" section in chapter 7 of your handbook.

If the lamp stays on after your checks:

  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer.

If You're Not Sure

If a red lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, stay calm, stop somewhere safe and check the warnings log on the display or screen. If you are still in doubt, contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
