Peugeot 807 I Indicators: Orange Warnings (2007-2012)

What each orange warning light on the Peugeot 807 (2007-2012) means, from service and air bag faults to ABS, ESP and diesel lamps, and what to do.

The orange lamps on your Peugeot 807 cover faults and warnings, plus a few systems you have switched on yourself. When you start the engine, several lamps light up briefly as a self-test and go out almost straight away. If one stays on or flashes once the engine is running, it is a warning. You may also hear a beep and see a message on the display. Do not ignore these warnings.

This guide covers the first-generation Peugeot 807 (2007-2012) and is based on handbook edition ed02-09, which applies to cars produced from 1 July 2009. Some lamps depend on your car's version or equipment, so you may not have all of them.

Service

Service warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the service symbol on the instrument panel. If it lights up for a short time, the car has picked up a minor fault or warning. If it stays on, there is a major fault.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on for a short time:

  • Check the warnings log on the display or screen. The "Audio equipment - Trip computer" section in chapter 9 of your handbook explains how.
  • Depending on how serious the fault is, contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

If the lamp stays on:

  • If the cause is a low diesel additive level, see the "Levels" section in chapter 6 of your handbook.

Front/side/ curtain air bag

Front/side/ curtain air bag warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the air bag symbol. If it flashes or stays on, one of the air bags has failed.

What to do:

  • Have the air bag system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer without delay.
  • For more detail, see the "Air bags" section in chapter 4 of your handbook.

Front passenger air bag disarmed

Front passenger air bag disarmed warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the passenger air bag symbol. When it is lit, the front passenger air bag has been deliberately switched off so that a rear-facing child seat can be used in the front.

What to do:

  • For how to switch the passenger air bag off and on again, see the "Air bags-children on board" section in chapter 4 of your handbook.

EOBD emission control system

EOBD emission control system warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the engine management symbol. If it flashes or stays on, there is a fault with the injection, the ignition or the emission control system. On a petrol engine, this can lead to the catalytic converter being destroyed.

What to do:

  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.

ABS

ABS warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the ABS symbol. If it stays on, or comes on once you are going faster than 7 mph (12 km/h), the anti-lock braking system has failed.

What to do:

  • You still have normal brakes, but without the anti-lock assistance.
  • You are advised to stop somewhere safe.
  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer.

ESP/ASR

ESP/ASR warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the ESP/ASR symbol. If it flashes, the system is working and has just stopped a wheel from skidding. If it stays on, there is a problem with the system, or you have switched it off.

What to do:

If the lamp flashes:

  • No action is needed. The system is improving traction and helping to keep the car stable and on course.
  • For more detail, see the "Driving safety" section in chapter 4 of your handbook.

If the lamp stays on and you have not pressed the button:

  • There is a fault with the system. Under-inflated tyres are one example of a cause.
  • Check your tyre pressures.
  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer.

If the lamp stays on after you have pressed the button below the steering wheel on the left:

  • You have switched the system off.
  • For how to use it, see the "Driving safety" section in chapter 4 of your handbook.

Diesel pre-heating

Diesel pre-heating warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the diesel pre-heating symbol. When it is lit, the weather conditions mean the engine needs to pre-heat before it starts.

What to do:

  • Wait until the lamp goes out before you operate the starter.

Rear fog lamps

Rear fog lamps warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the rear fog lamp symbol. When it is lit, you have switched the rear fog lamps on yourself.

What to do:

  • The rear fog lamps only work when the side lights or dipped headlamps are on.
  • They give a dazzling red light, so switch them off when visibility is normal, or you risk being penalised.

Cruise control

Cruise control warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the cruise control symbol. When it is lit, you have selected cruise control.

What to do:

  • Cruise control is switched on by you, using the steering wheel controls.
  • For how to use it, see the "Steering wheel controls" section in chapter 3 of your handbook.

Speed limiter

Speed limiter warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the speed limiter symbol. When it is lit, you have selected the speed limiter.

What to do:

  • The speed limiter is switched on by you, using the steering wheel controls.
  • For how to use it, see the "Steering wheel controls" section in chapter 3 of your handbook.

Particle emission filter saturation warning

Particle emission filter saturation warning warning lamp icon

This warning shows the particle emission filter symbol. It appears together with the service lamp and means there is a problem with the particle emission filter, for example a low diesel additive level or a risk of the filter clogging.

What to do:

  • Have the filter checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
  • For more detail, see the "Levels" section in chapter 6 of your handbook.

If You're Not Sure

If an orange lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, check the warnings log and any message on the display, then look it up in your handbook. If you are still unsure, contact a PEUGEOT dealer rather than ignoring the warning.

Orange lamps are there to warn you early or to show that a system is switched on. If you know what each one means, you can tell when to carry on and when to get your Peugeot 807 checked.
