Peugeot 307 SW Indicators: Red Warnings (2005-2008)

What each red warning light on your Peugeot 307 SW (2005-2008) means, from the STOP lamp to brake and oil pressure warnings, and what you should do next.

Red warning lamps on your dashboard are the ones to take most seriously. Some point to a fault that means you should stop straight away, while others simply ask you to do something, such as release the handbrake or fasten your seat belt.

This guide covers the red warning lamps on the Peugeot 307 SW (2005-2008), based on handbook edition ed02-07 for vehicles produced from 1 October 2007. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment fitted to your car, so you may not see all of them.

This red lamp works together with the central STOP warning light. It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition. When it comes on at other times, you also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display. It can mean that the handbrake is applied or has not been released properly, that the brake fluid level has dropped too far, or that there is a fault with the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD).

What to do:

If the handbrake is applied or has not been released properly:

  • Release the handbrake fully.

If the lamp stays on even with the handbrake released, the brake fluid level has dropped too far:

  • Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

If the lamp comes on together with the ABS warning light, there is an EBFD fault:

  • Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

This red lamp comes on when you switch on the ignition if you, the driver, have not fastened your seat belt. With the engine running and the doors closed, it switches off automatically after 30 seconds. If your seat belt is unfastened while driving, the way it lights up depends on your speed.

What to do:

Below 12 mph (20 km/h), the lamp stays on steadily:

  • Fasten your seat belt.

Above 12 mph (20 km/h), the lamp flashes for two minutes with an audible signal that gets louder, then stays on steadily until you fasten your belt:

  • Fasten your seat belt.

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without delay.

If You're Not Sure

If you are not sure what a red lamp is telling you, stay calm, stop somewhere safe and check the message on the multifunction display. If a red lamp comes on together with the central STOP warning light, treat it as serious and contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
