Peugeot 307 SW Indicators: Orange Warnings (2002-2005)

What each orange warning light on the Peugeot 307 SW (2002-2005) means, from ABS and air bag lamps to low fuel, and what you should do next.

Orange warning lamps on your Peugeot 307 SW are there to tell you about a fault, a system that is switched off or something that needs your attention. They are less urgent than the central STOP light, but you should not ignore them.

This guide covers the Peugeot 307 SW built between 2002 and 2005 and is based on handbook edition ed02-04, which applies to cars produced from 1 July 2004. Some of these lamps depend on the version or equipment of your car, so not every one will appear on yours.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning light

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning light warning lamp icon

This is the warning lamp for the anti-lock braking system (ABS). It comes on for 3 seconds each time you switch on the ignition and should then go out.

If it stays on, or comes on above 8 mph (12 km/h), there is a fault with the ABS. You will also hear an audible signal and see the message 'ABS fault' on the multi-function display. Your car still has conventional servo-assisted braking.

What to do:

  • Remember that your normal servo-assisted brakes still work, but the ABS does not.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Electronic stability program (ESP/ASR) warning light

Electronic stability program (ESP/ASR) warning light warning lamp icon

This is the warning lamp for the electronic stability program (ESP/ASR). It comes on for 3 seconds each time you switch on the ignition.

With the engine running and the car moving, it flashes when the system is working. It stays lit when you have switched the system off. If it stays on or comes on while you are driving, together with an audible signal and the message 'ESP/ASR system not functioning', the system has a fault.

What to do:

If the light is flashing while you drive:

  • No action is needed, the system is working.

If the light is on steadily because you switched the system off:

  • Switch the system back on when you want it working again.

If the light comes on with the message 'ESP/ASR system not functioning':

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Engine diagnostics warning light

This is the engine diagnostics warning lamp. It comes on each time you switch on the ignition.

If it comes on with the engine running, you will hear an audible signal and see a message on the multi-function display explaining the cause.

What to do:

If the message reads 'Antipollution fault':

  • This means there is a fault in the emission control system.
  • The handbook does not give a specific action for this message.

If the message reads 'Unblock diesel filter':

  • This means the particulate emission filter is starting to clog up, caused by unusually long spells of town driving, such as low speeds and long traffic jams.
  • The handbook does not give a specific action for this message.

Diesel pre-heat light

This is the diesel pre-heat lamp. It comes on each time you switch on the ignition and tells you the engine is not yet ready to start.

What to do:

  • Wait until the light goes out before you try the starter.

Water in diesel filter warning light (according to country)

This lamp warns you about water in the diesel fuel filter and is fitted depending on the country. When it comes on, you will also hear an audible signal and see the message 'Water in diesel fuel filter' on the multi-function display.

There is a risk of damage to the injection system.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.

Passenger air bag disarmed indicator light

This lamp tells you the front passenger air bag is switched off. If the passenger air bag is disarmed, the light comes on when you switch on the ignition and stays on, and the message 'Passenger air bag deactivated' appears on the multi-function display.

What to do:

If the light is on steadily:

  • Check that you meant to switch off the passenger air bag.

If the light is flashing:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Air bag warning light

This is the air bag warning lamp. It comes on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition.

If it comes on with the engine running, you will hear an audible signal and see the message 'Air bag fault' on the multi-function display. This means there is a fault in the front air bags, or in the side or curtain air bags.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Low fuel level warning light

Low fuel level warning light warning lamp icon

This is the low fuel lamp. It comes on for three seconds when you switch on the ignition.

If it comes on with the engine running, you will hear an audible signal and see the message 'Fuel level low'. If it flashes, the fuel gauge has a fault.

What to do:

If the light is on steadily:

  • You have enough fuel for about 30 miles (50 km).
  • Fill up soon. The tank holds about 60 litres.

If the light is flashing:

  • The fuel gauge needle drops to its rest position, below zero.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

If You're Not Sure

If you are not sure which lamp is showing, read the message on the multi-function display, as most of these lights come with one. If a lamp appears together with the central STOP light, or you are worried about how the car feels, stop somewhere safe and contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Orange lamps are your Peugeot 307 SW asking for attention rather than telling you to stop. Take note of the message, act on it as described above and your car will keep looking after you.
