Peugeot 307 CC Indicators: Red Warnings (2005-2008)

Red warning lights on the Peugeot 307 CC (2005-2008) explained: what the STOP, brake, seat belt and oil pressure lamps mean and what you should do next.

Red warning lamps on your dashboard are the most serious ones. They tell you about a fault or a situation that needs your attention straight away, and some of them mean you should stop as soon as it is safe to do so.

This guide covers the Peugeot 307 CC built between 2005 and 2008, based on handbook edition ed02-07, which applies to vehicles produced from 01/10/2007. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment fitted to your car, so you may not see every one of them.

OPERATION WARNING LIGHTS A permanently lit warning light or one that flashes with the engine running, indicates an operating fault in the relevant unit. Some warning lights may be linked to buzzers and a message on the multifunction ignore this warning: contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible

This is the general rule for the warning lights on your dashboard.

If a warning light stays on, or flashes, while the engine is running, it points to a fault in the system it relates to. Some warning lights also come with a buzzer and a message on the multifunction display.

What to do:

  • Do not ignore the warning.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.

Central STOP warning light

This lamp shows the word STOP.

It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition. It is also linked to the brake warning light and the engine oil pressure warning light.

What to do:

  • If it comes on together with the brake warning light or the engine oil pressure warning light, follow the advice for that lamp below.

Handbrake, low brake fluid level and electronic brake force distribution fault warning light

This is the brake warning lamp, and it works together with the central STOP warning light.

It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition. If it lights up at any other time, you will also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display. It can mean that the handbrake is applied or has not been released correctly. When the car is moving, it can mean the brake fluid level has dropped too far, if the light stays on even with the handbrake released. If it comes on together with the ABS warning light, it means there is a fault with the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD).

What to do:

If the light is warning you about the handbrake:

  • The light is telling you the handbrake is applied or has not been released correctly.

If the light stays on while you are driving with the handbrake released:

  • Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

If the light comes on together with the ABS warning light:

  • Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Seat belt unfastened/not fastened warning light

This lamp reminds you to fasten your seat belt.

When you switch on the ignition, it comes on if the driver's seat belt is not fastened. With the engine running and the doors closed, it goes out automatically after 30 seconds. If you unfasten your seat belt while driving, the way it warns you depends on your speed.

What to do:

Below 12 mph (20 km/h), the light stays on constantly:

  • Fasten your seat belt.

Above 12 mph (20 km/h), the light flashes for two minutes with an audible signal that gets louder, then stays on until the belt is fastened:

  • Fasten your seat belt.

If it comes on while the engine is running, you will also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display. You should stop immediately.

What to do:

  • Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
  • If the engine is low on oil, top up the engine oil level.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.

If You're Not Sure

If a red lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, stay calm, stop somewhere safe and check this guide or your handbook. If you are still in doubt, contact a PEUGEOT dealer before you carry on driving.
