Peugeot 307 CC Indicators: Orange Warnings (2005-2008)

Orange warning lamps on the Peugeot 307 CC (2005-2008) explained: what each light means and what to do, from the service light to ABS, ESP and low fuel.

Orange lamps on your dashboard are there to warn you about a fault or a situation that needs your attention. They are not usually as urgent as red lamps, but you should never ignore them. This guide explains each orange lamp and what the handbook tells you to do.

It covers the Peugeot 307 CC built between 2005 and 2008, based on handbook edition ed02-07 for vehicles produced from 01/10/2007. Some lamps only appear on certain versions or with certain equipment, so your car may not have all of them.

Service warning light

Service warning light warning lamp icon

This is the orange service lamp shown above. It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition, which is normal.

If it stays on, or comes on while the engine is running, you will also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display. It can indicate any of the following:

  • a battery charge fault
  • an automatic gearbox operation fault
  • an engine immobiliser system fault
  • an engine management system fault
  • a speed control system fault (cruise control or speed limiter)
  • a rear parking assistance system fault
  • a fault with the automatic lighting system
  • a fault with the automatic headlamp adjustment system
  • a fault with the tyre under-inflation detection system
  • a deflated wheel
  • a flat remote control battery
  • one or more doors open at a speed above 6 mph (10 km/h)
  • a low level in the diesel additive reservoir (Diesel)
  • a lack of engine oil
  • water in the diesel filter (Diesel)
  • the particle emission filter starting to become saturated (Diesel), caused by unusually long periods of urban driving such as low speeds and long traffic jams

What to do:

If the light is warning you that the particle emission filter is starting to become saturated (Diesel):

  • As soon as traffic conditions allow, drive at 40 mph (60 km/h) or more for at least five minutes, until the light goes out, so the filter can regenerate.
  • If the light stays on after this, contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
  • You may hear a relay noise under the fascia panel while the filter regenerates. This is normal.

Anti-lock braking system warning light (ABS)

Anti-lock braking system warning light (ABS) warning lamp icon

This is the orange ABS lamp shown above. It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition.

If it stays on, or comes on above 8 mph (12 km/h), there is a fault with the ABS. You will also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display. Your car still has conventional servo-assisted braking.

What to do:

  • Remember that you still have conventional servo-assisted braking, but not the anti-lock function.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Electronic stability programme warning light (ESP/ASR)

Electronic stability programme warning light (ESP/ASR) warning lamp icon

This is the orange ESP/ASR lamp shown above. It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition.

While you are driving, it flashes when the system steps in to help. If it stays lit permanently, the system has been disarmed. If it stays on or comes on while you are driving, with an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, there is a fault.

What to do:

If the light stays on or comes on while you are driving, with a signal and a message:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

If the light is lit permanently because you have disarmed the system:

  • This simply shows the system is disarmed.

Emission control system warning light

This is the orange emission control lamp shown above. It comes on each time you switch on the ignition and should go out a few seconds after the engine starts.

If it comes on while the engine is running, with an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, there is a malfunction in the emission control system.

What to do:

  • Check that the light goes out a few seconds after you start the engine.
  • If it comes on while the engine is running, contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.

Air bags and rear, protective, pop-up roll-over hoops warning light

This is the orange air bag lamp shown above. It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition.

If it comes on while the engine is running, with an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, there is a fault with the front or side air bags, or with the pop-up roll-over hoops in the rear head restraints.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Passenger air bag disarmed indicator light

If the passenger air bag has been disarmed, the light stays on.

What to do:

Diesel engine pre-heat warning light

What to do:

  • Wait for the light to go out before you operate the starter.

Battery charge warning light*

This is the orange battery charge lamp shown above. It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition. Depending on the country, the service warning light may be used instead.

If it comes on while the engine is running, with an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, it may indicate a fault in the charging circuit, slack battery or starter terminals, a cut or slack alternator belt, or an alternator failure.

What to do:

  • Stay calm and stop somewhere safe if you are unsure.

Low fuel level warning light

Low fuel level warning light warning lamp icon

This is the orange low fuel lamp shown above. It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition.

If it comes on while the engine is running, you will also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display. When it comes on, you have enough fuel for approximately 30 miles (50 km). The tank holds approximately 60 litres.

What to do:

  • Keep in mind that you have approximately 30 miles (50 km) of fuel left once the light comes on.

If You're Not Sure

If an orange lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, stay calm, stop somewhere safe when you can and check your handbook. If you are still unsure, contact a PEUGEOT dealer for advice.

Orange lamps are your Peugeot 307 CC's way of telling you something needs attention. Knowing what each one means helps you act at the right time and keep your car in good shape.
