Peugeot 307 CC Indicators: Orange Warnings (2003-2005)

Orange warning lights on the Peugeot 307 CC explained: ABS, ESP/ASR, engine diagnostics, air bags, roll-over hoops and low fuel, with what to do.

Orange warning lamps on your Peugeot 307 CC usually point to a fault or a system that needs your attention, rather than an immediate stop. Some of them simply tell you about the status of a system, while others mean you should have the car checked.

This guide covers the Peugeot 307 CC (2003-2005), based on handbook edition ed02-04, which applies to cars produced from 1 July 2004. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your car, so not every lamp here will appear on yours.

ABS warning light

ABS warning light warning lamp icon

This is the ABS warning lamp shown above. It comes on for 3 seconds each time you switch on the ignition. If it stays on, or comes on above 8 mph (12 km/h), there is a fault with the ABS. You will also hear an audible signal and see the message "ABS fault" on the multi-function display. Your car still keeps conventional servo-assisted braking.

If it comes on together with the handbrake and brake fluid warning lamp and the message "Braking fault", it means there is a fault with the electronic brake force distribution.

What to do:

If the ABS lamp comes on by itself:

  • Carry on driving carefully, as normal servo-assisted braking still works.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

If it comes on with the brake warning lamp and the message "Braking fault":

  • Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Electronic stability program (ESP/ASR) warning light

This is the ESP/ASR warning lamp shown above. It comes on for 3 seconds each time you switch on the ignition. While you are driving it flashes when the system is working, and it stays lit when the system has been disarmed.

If it stays on or comes on while the engine is running and the car is moving, together with an audible signal and the message "ESP/ASR not functioning" on the multi-function display, the system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp flashes while you are driving:

  • The system is working, so no action is needed.

If the lamp stays on because you have disarmed the system:

  • This simply confirms the system is switched off.

If it stays on or comes on with the message "ESP/ASR not functioning":

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Engine diagnostics warning light

This is the engine diagnostics lamp shown above. It comes on each time you switch on the ignition. If it flashes while the engine is running, with an audible signal and the message "Catalytic converter fault" on the multi-function display, there is a fault in the injection or ignition system and the catalytic converter could be damaged.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.

Passenger air bag disarmed warning light

This is the passenger air bag disarmed lamp shown above. If the passenger air bag has been disarmed, the lamp comes on when you switch on the ignition and stays on, along with the message "Passenger air bag deactivated" on the multi-function display. If the lamp flashes, something is wrong.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on steadily:

  • No action is needed if you have disarmed the passenger air bag yourself.

If the lamp flashes:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Air bags and rear, protective, pop-up roll-over hoops warning light

Air bags and rear, protective, pop-up roll-over hoops warning light warning lamp icon

This is the air bag and roll-over hoop lamp shown above. It comes on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition. If it lights up with the engine running, you will hear an audible signal and see a message on the multi-function display: "Air bag fault" means a fault with the front or side air bags, and "Roll-over hoops fault" means a fault with the pop-up roll-over hoops in the rear head restraints.

What to do:

  • Check which message is shown on the multi-function display.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Low fuel level warning light

Low fuel level warning light warning lamp icon

This is the low fuel lamp shown above. It comes on for three seconds when you switch on the ignition. If it lights up with the engine running, together with an audible signal and the message "Fuel level low", you have enough fuel for about 30 miles (50 km). The tank holds about 60 litres.

If the lamp flashes, the fuel gauge has a fault and the needle drops back to its rest position, below zero.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on with the message "Fuel level low":

  • Refuel soon, as you have about 30 miles (50 km) left.

If the lamp flashes:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

If You're Not Sure

If you are not sure what a lamp means, check the message on the multi-function display, as it often tells you the cause. If you are still unsure or the car feels wrong, stop somewhere safe and contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Orange lamps on your 307 CC are rarely a reason to panic, but they are worth acting on. Keep an eye on the multi-function display messages and follow the steps above to stay safe on the road.
