Peugeot 206 SW Indicators: Green and Blue Warnings (2004)

Green and blue lights on the Peugeot 206 SW from April 2004: what the coolant and oil temperature indicators show and what to do when they read high.

Green and blue lights on your dashboard are usually there to give you information rather than to warn you about a fault. This guide covers the Peugeot 206 SW, based on handbook edition ed01-04, which applies to vehicles produced from 1 April 2004.

The handbook chapter this guide is based on doesn't state lamp colours, so this guide covers the information displays from that chapter that show a status rather than a fault: the coolant and engine oil temperature indicators. Some displays depend on the version or equipment of your car, so yours may not have every one.

Coolant temperature indicator

Coolant temperature indicator warning lamp icon

This one is a needle gauge rather than a lamp. When the needle sits in the normal zone, the coolant temperature is correct. When it moves into the high zone, the temperature is too high and the central STOP warning light flashes.

What to do:

If the needle is in the normal zone:

  • Nothing to do, the coolant temperature is correct.

If the needle is in the high zone and the central STOP warning light flashes:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Engine oil temperature indicator

This is a needle gauge with its own symbol. With the engine running, it shows the engine oil temperature. A needle in the normal zone means the temperature is correct, and a needle in the high zone means it is too high.

What to do:

If the needle is in the normal zone:

  • Nothing to do, the oil temperature is correct.

If the needle is in the high zone:

  • Reduce your speed to bring the oil temperature down.

If You're Not Sure

If you're not sure what a light or gauge on your 206 SW is telling you, check the handbook for your car. If a warning appears alongside it, stop somewhere safe and contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Most of the time, these displays simply confirm that things are as they should be. Keep an eye on them, especially in heavy traffic or on long drives, and you'll spot a rising temperature early.
