Orange warning lamps on your Peugeot Traveller tell you that a fault has been detected or show you the status of a system, such as a function that is on or switched off. Some come on steadily and some flash, and they may be joined by an audible signal or a message on the screen. Certain orange lamps come on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition and should go off as soon as the engine starts.

This guide covers the Peugeot Traveller III (2016-2024) and applies to vehicles built from 1 December 2022. Some lamps only appear on certain versions or with certain equipment, such as Diesel, Electric or the electric parking brake, so not every lamp here will apply to your vehicle.

Service

Electric parking brake fault warning lightService warning light

This is the orange Service warning lamp. It warns you of one or more faults that do not have their own specific warning lamp, and a message on the instrument panel tells you which fault it is. If it comes on only briefly the fault is minor, and if it stays on the fault is major.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on temporarily with a message, a minor fault has been detected:

  • Read the message on the instrument panel to find out what the fault is.
  • You may be able to sort out some faults yourself, such as changing the battery in the remote control.
  • For other faults, such as a problem with the tyre under-inflation detection system, go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on with a message, a major fault has been detected:

  • Read the message on the instrument panel to find out what the fault is.
  • Then go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Release not available (with electric parking brake)

Electric parking brake fault warning light

This is the orange Service warning lamp. It stays on with the message 'Parking brake fault' when automatic release of the electric parking brake is not available.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Service

This alert uses the orange Service warning lamp together with the service spanner symbol. The Service lamp stays on while the spanner flashes and then stays on, showing that your servicing interval has been exceeded. This applies only to BlueHDi Diesel engines.

What to do:

  • Have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

ABS warning light

This is the orange ABS warning lamp. When it stays on, the anti-lock braking system has a fault, but your vehicle still has conventional braking.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully at a moderate speed.
  • Then go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

AdBlue® (Euro 6.3/6.4)

AdBlue warning light

This is the orange AdBlue® warning lamp. It warns you as your AdBlue® level drops, with a message showing your remaining driving range. The lower the range, the more urgent the alert becomes, and if the tank runs empty the engine will not start.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on for around 30 seconds when you start, your range is between 1,500 and 500 miles (2,400 and 800 km):

  • Top up the AdBlue®.

If the lamp stays on when you switch on the ignition, with a beep, your range is between 500 and 62 miles (800 and 100 km):

  • Top up the AdBlue® promptly, or go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp flashes with a beep and a range message, you have less than 62 miles (100 km) left:

  • You must top up the AdBlue® to stop the engine being prevented from starting.
  • Alternatively, go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp flashes with a beep and a message saying starting is prevented, the AdBlue® tank is empty and the legally required immobiliser stops the engine from starting:

  • Top up the AdBlue®, or contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop, to be able to restart the engine.
  • You must add at least 10 litres of AdBlue® to the tank.

SCR emissions control system (BlueHDi)

AdBlue warning lightElectric parking brake fault warning lightAmber engine warning light

This alert uses the AdBlue®, Service and Engine self-diagnostics warning lamps, with a beep and a message. It means a malfunction has been detected in the SCR emissions control system. If the fault is confirmed, there is a limit to how far you can drive before the engine is prevented from starting.

What to do:

If the lamps stay on when you switch on the ignition, a malfunction has been detected:

  • The alert goes away once the exhaust emissions return to normal levels.

If the AdBlue® lamp flashes while the Service and Engine self-diagnostics lamps stay on, with a range message, you may be able to drive up to 685 miles (1,100 km), depending on the message, before the immobiliser is triggered:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay, so that starting is not prevented.

If the same lamps come on with a message saying starting is prevented, the permitted driving limit has been exceeded and the immobiliser stops the engine from restarting:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop to be able to start the engine.

Engine self-diagnostic system (Diesel)

Amber engine warning lightTyre pressure warning lightRed stop warning light

This is the orange Engine self-diagnostics warning lamp. It warns you of a fault with the engine management or emissions control system. How it lights up, and which other lamps come on with it, tells you how serious the fault is.

What to do:

If the Engine self-diagnostics lamp flashes, the engine management system has a fault and there is a risk the catalytic converter will be destroyed:

  • You must contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the Engine self-diagnostics lamp stays on by itself, the emissions control system has a fault:

  • The lamp should go off once the engine has started.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

If the Engine self-diagnostics lamp stays on together with the Service lamp, a minor engine fault has been detected:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the alternative pair of lamps for a major engine fault stays on, a major engine fault has been detected:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Then contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Automatic functions deactivated (electric parking brake)

Electric parking brake auto off indicator

This is the orange electric parking brake automatic functions lamp. When it stays on, automatic application of the parking brake when you switch off the engine, and automatic release when you accelerate, are both switched off.

What to do:

  • If automatic application and release no longer work, start the engine, apply the electric parking brake with the control and take your foot fully off the brake pedal.
  • Hold the control pressed in the release direction for between 10 and 15 seconds, then let go.
  • Press and hold the brake pedal, pull the control in the application direction for 2 seconds, then release both the control and the brake pedal.

Malfunction (with electric parking brake)

Electric parking brake fault warning lightElectric parking brake auto off indicator

This is the orange electric parking brake malfunction lamp, which comes on with the Service lamp and the message 'Parking brake fault'. If the automatic functions lamp also comes on, the parking brake itself is faulty and may not work manually or automatically.

What to do:

If the malfunction lamp and Service lamp stay on, the vehicle cannot be held by the parking brake with the engine running:

  • If the manual apply and release commands do not work, the parking brake control is faulty.
  • Use the automatic functions at all times: they switch back on by themselves if the control develops a fault.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the automatic functions lamp also stays on, the electric parking brake is faulty:

  • When stationary, pull the parking brake control and hold it for approximately 7 to 15 seconds, until the indicator lamp lights up on the instrument panel.
  • If that does not work, park on a level surface and engage a gear with a manual gearbox, or with an automatic gearbox or drive selector select mode P and place the supplied chock against one of the wheels.
  • Then contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Braking

Amber brake warning light

This is the orange braking warning lamp. When it stays on, a minor fault with the braking system has been detected.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Collision Risk Alert/Active Safety Brake

Collision alert warning light

This is the orange Collision Risk Alert/Active Safety Brake lamp. It shows when the system is braking for you or has a fault, and a separate deactivation lamp shows when you have switched the system off.

What to do:

If the lamp flashes, the system is briefly braking the vehicle to reduce the speed of a collision with the vehicle in front:

  • See the Driving section of your handbook for more information.

If the lamp stays on with a message and a beep, the system has a fault:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the deactivation lamp stays on with a message, the system has been switched off in the vehicle configuration menu:

  • No action is needed: this simply confirms the system is switched off.

Dynamic stability control /Anti-slip regulation (DSC)

Stability control warning light

This is the orange DSC/ASR lamp. It flashes when the system steps in because of a loss of grip or trajectory, and stays on if the system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp flashes, the DSC/ASR system is working:

  • No action is needed: the system is helping you keep grip and control.

If the lamp stays on, the DSC/ASR system has a fault:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Emergency brake malfunction (with electric parking brake)

Stability control warning lightElectric parking brake fault warning light

This alert uses the DSC/ASR lamp and the Service lamp, with the message 'Parking brake fault'. It means emergency braking does not deliver its best performance.

What to do:

  • If automatic release is not available, release the parking brake manually.
  • Alternatively, go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Hill start assist

Stability control warning lightElectric parking brake fault warning light

This alert uses the DSC/ASR lamp and the Service lamp, with the message 'Anti roll-back system fault'. It means the hill start assist system has a fault.

What to do:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Dynamic stability control /Anti-slip regulation (DSC)

This is the orange DSC/ASR deactivation lamp. When it stays on, the DSC/ASR system is switched off.

What to do:

  • The system switches back on by itself when you restart the vehicle, and at speeds above approximately 31 mph (50 km/h).
  • Below 31 mph (50 km/h), you can switch it back on manually.

Under-inflation

Tyre pressure warning light

This is the orange under-inflation warning lamp. It warns you that one or more tyres has low pressure, or, together with the Service lamp, that the tyre pressure monitoring system is faulty.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on with a beep and a message, the pressure in one or more tyres is too low:

  • Check your tyre pressures as soon as possible.
  • Reinitialise the detection system once you have adjusted the pressures.

If the lamp flashes then stays on, with the Service lamp on, the tyre pressure monitoring system is faulty and your tyres are no longer being monitored:

  • Check your tyre pressures as soon as possible.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine preheating (Diesel)

Diesel preheat indicator

This is the orange preheating lamp. It comes on for a short time when you switch on the ignition if the weather and engine temperature make preheating necessary, for up to approximately 30 seconds in severe weather.

What to do:

  • Wait until the lamp goes off before you start the engine.
  • Once it goes off, the engine starts straight away if you press and hold the clutch pedal with a manual gearbox, or the brake pedal with an automatic gearbox.
  • If the engine does not start, make the starting request again while keeping your foot on the pedal.

Front passenger airbag (ON)

Passenger airbag on indicator

This is the orange front passenger airbag ON lamp. When it stays on, the front passenger airbag is active and its control is in the ON position.

What to do:

  • Do NOT fit a rearward-facing child seat on the front passenger seat, as there is a risk of serious injury.

Front passenger airbag (OFF)

Passenger airbag off indicator

This is the orange front passenger airbag OFF lamp. When it stays on, the front passenger airbag is switched off and its control is in the OFF position.

What to do:

  • You can fit a rearward-facing child seat on the front passenger seat.
  • Do not do this if there is an airbag fault, shown by the Airbags warning lamp being on.

Airbags

Amber airbag warning light

This is the orange Airbags warning lamp. When it stays on, one of the airbags or seat belt pyrotechnic pretensioners is faulty.

What to do:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Low fuel level (Diesel)

Amber low fuel warning light

This is the orange low fuel lamp, shown as a warning lamp or LED depending on version, with the needle in the red zone, a beep and a message. When it first comes on, there are less than 8 litres of fuel left in the tank. Until you refuel, the alert repeats every time you switch on the ignition, more and more often as the level gets closer to empty.

What to do:

  • Refuel without delay so you do not run out.
  • Never drive until the tank is completely empty, as this could damage the emissions control and injection systems.

Tortoise mode with limited driving range (Electric)

Turtle mode warning light

This is the orange tortoise mode lamp. When it stays on, the traction battery's state of charge is critical and engine power gradually reduces.

What to do:

  • You must put the vehicle on charge.
  • If the lamp stays on, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Pedestrian horn (Electric)

Pedestrian horn warning light

This is the orange pedestrian horn lamp. When it stays on, a fault with the pedestrian horn has been detected.

What to do:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Water in Diesel fuel filter (Diesel)

Water in diesel warning light

This is the orange water in fuel filter lamp, shown on vehicles with an LCD instrument panel. When it stays on, there is water in the Diesel fuel filter, which risks damaging the fuel injection system.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Particle filter (Diesel)

Particle filter warning light

This is the orange particle filter lamp. It stays on with a beep and a message, either because the particle filter is nearly full or because the additive level is too low.

What to do:

If the message warns of a risk of particle filter blockage, the filter is nearing saturation:

  • As soon as traffic conditions allow, regenerate the filter by driving at a speed of at least 37 mph (60 km/h) with the engine speed above 2,500 rpm.
  • Keep driving this way until the lamp goes off.

If the message says the additive level is too low, the additive tank has reached its low level:

  • Have the additive topped up without delay at a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Power steering

Amber power steering warning light

This is the orange power steering warning lamp. When it stays on, the power steering has a fault.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully at a moderate speed.
  • Then go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Rear foglamp

Rear fog lamp indicator

This is the orange rear foglamp indicator. When it stays on, your rear foglamp is switched on.

What to do:

  • No action is needed: this simply confirms the rear foglamp is on.

Foot on the brake

Foot on brake indicator

This is the orange foot on the brake lamp. When it stays on, there is not enough pressure, or none at all, on the brake pedal.

What to do:

  • With an automatic gearbox or drive selector, you may need to press the brake pedal to move the gearbox out of mode N.

Foot on the clutch

Foot on clutch indicator

This is the orange foot on the clutch lamp. When it stays on, Stop & Start has refused to switch to START mode because the clutch pedal is not pressed all the way down.

What to do:

  • Press the clutch pedal fully down.

If You're Not Sure

If an orange lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, check the message on the instrument panel and compare how the lamp is lit, steady or flashing, with the descriptions above. If you are still unsure or the lamp stays on, go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop, and if anything feels wrong with the brakes or steering, stop somewhere safe first.

Orange lamps are usually your Peugeot Traveller's way of asking for attention rather than an emergency, but they are worth acting on promptly. Keep this guide handy, and refer to your handbook for full details of each system.
