Red warning lamps on your instrument panel point to something that needs your attention straight away. Some mean you should stop as soon as it is safe, while others are simple reminders, such as an unfastened seat belt or a door left open.

This guide covers the Peugeot Partner II van and applies to vehicles built from 1 March 2017. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your van, so you may not see every one listed here.

STOP

Red stop warning light

This is the red STOP warning lamp. It comes on steadily together with another warning lamp, and a message appears on the screen. It signals a major fault linked to the brake fluid level, engine oil pressure and temperature, engine coolant temperature, electronic brake force distribution or power steering warning lamps.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Park and switch off the ignition.
  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine coolant temperature and level

Coolant temperature warning light

This is the red engine coolant temperature lamp. It comes on steadily while the temperature needle sits in the red zone. It means the coolant temperature has risen abnormally.

What to do:

  • Park somewhere safe and switch off the ignition.
  • Let the engine cool down.
  • Check the coolant level visually.

Engine oil pressure and temperature

Oil pressure warning light

This is the red engine oil pressure and temperature lamp. If it stays on steadily while you are driving, the oil pressure is too low or the oil temperature is too high. If it stays on even though the oil level is correct, there is a major fault.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on steadily while you are driving:

  • Park somewhere safe and switch off the ignition.
  • Let the engine cool down.
  • Check the engine oil level visually. See the Checking levels section of your handbook for more information.

If the lamp stays on even though the oil level is correct:

  • Have your van checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Battery charge

Battery charge warning light

This is the red battery charge lamp. If it comes on steadily, there is a fault in the charging circuit. If it flashes, active functions have been put on standby in economy mode. If it stays on even after you have checked the battery terminals, there is a fault with the ignition or injection system.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on steadily:

  • Check the battery terminals.
  • See the Battery section of your handbook for more information.

If the lamp flashes:

  • See the Battery section of your handbook for more information about economy mode.

If the lamp stays on after you have checked the terminals:

  • Have your van checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Seat belt not fastened

Red seat belt warning light

This is the red seat belt reminder lamp. If it comes on steadily and then flashes, the driver and/or front passenger has not fastened their seat belt. If it comes on with an audible signal and then stays on, the van is moving while the driver's and/or front passenger's seat belt is unfastened.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on steadily and then flashes:

  • Pull the seat belt strap out and push the tongue into the buckle.

If the lamp comes on with an audible signal while moving:

  • Pull on the strap to check that the seat belt is fastened correctly.

Power steering

Red power steering warning light

This is the red power steering lamp. When it comes on steadily, the power steering has a fault.

What to do:

  • Bear in mind your van still has conventional steering, just without the power assistance.
  • Have your van checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Opening detection

Red door open warning light

This is the red opening detection lamp. It comes on steadily with a message on the screen when one of the van's access openings, such as a door, is not properly closed.

What to do:

  • Check that all the doors and other access openings on your van are properly closed.

Parking brake

Red brake warning light

This is the red braking lamp. When it comes on steadily, the parking brake is applied or has not been fully released.

What to do:

  • Keep your foot on the brake pedal.
  • Release the parking brake, and the lamp will go out.

Brake fluid level

Red brake warning light

This is the same red braking lamp used for the parking brake. When it comes on steadily, the brake fluid level is too low.

What to do:

  • Top up the brake fluid with a fluid approved by PEUGEOT.

Electronic brake force distribution

Red brake warning light

Here the red braking lamp comes on steadily together with the ABS warning lamp. If this happens even though the brake fluid level is correct, there is a fault with the electronic brake force distribution system.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Park and switch off the ignition.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If You're Not Sure

If a red lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, stay calm, stop somewhere safe and check the warning lamp section of your handbook. If you are still unsure, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop for advice.

Red lamps are your van's way of telling you something needs dealing with now, so it pays to know them before you need them. Keep this guide handy, and always follow your handbook for the details that apply to your Partner.
