Orange warning lamps on your Peugeot 408 tell you that a fault may need further investigation, or show you the status of a system that has been switched off or is working. Some orange lamps light up for a few seconds when you switch the ignition on. They should go out as soon as the engine starts. If one stays on, check what it means below.

This guide covers the Peugeot 408 I (2026-present), based on handbook edition ed02-26 for vehicles produced from 09/02/2026. Some lamps only appear on certain versions (ICE, MHEV, PHEV or BEV) or with certain equipment, so your car may not have all of them.

Orange warning/indicator lights Service

Orange warning/indicator lights Service warning lamp icon

This is the orange Service lamp on your instrument panel. It warns you about faults that have no warning lamp of their own, and it always comes with a message. How it lights up tells you how serious the fault is.

What to do:

If it comes on briefly with a message, one or more minor faults have been detected:

  • Use the message on the instrument panel to find out what the fault is.
  • You may be able to sort some faults yourself, such as changing the battery in the remote control.
  • For other faults, such as a problem with the tyre under-inflation detection system, seek the assistance of a workshop.

If it stays on with a message, one or more major faults have been detected:

  • Use the message on the instrument panel to find out what the fault is.
  • Then seek the assistance of a workshop.

If it stays on with the message “Audible Warning System fault: Repair needed”, the audible warning system has failed:

  • Bear in mind that Traffic Signs Recognition, Active Safety Brake/Collision Risk Alert and Lane keeping assist may be disturbed or unavailable.

This orange lamp stays on with the message “Parking brake fault”. The car cannot be immobilised with the engine running. If applying and releasing the brake by hand no longer works, the electric parking brake control itself is faulty.

  • Use the automatic functions at all times. They switch back on by themselves if the control develops a fault.
  • Seek the assistance of a workshop.

Automatic functions deactivated (electric parking brake)

Orange lamps are there to warn you early, so it pays to act on them rather than ignore them. Keep this guide handy and you will always know whether a lamp is just information or a sign that your Peugeot 408 needs attention.
