Green and blue lamps on your dashboard are information and status lights. They tell you that a system or function is switched on or working, so in normal use they are nothing to worry about.

This guide covers the Peugeot 408 I, based on handbook edition ed02-26 for vehicles produced from 09/02/2026 onwards. Some lamps only appear on certain versions or depend on the equipment fitted to your car, such as the PHEV or BEV models.

Green warning/indicator lights Stop & Start (ICE)

Green warning/indicator lights Stop & Start (ICE) warning lamp icon

This green Stop & Start symbol appears on the instrument panel. When it is steady, the Stop & Start system has put the engine into STOP mode because the vehicle has stopped. If it flashes for a short time, STOP mode is temporarily unavailable or START mode has been triggered automatically.

What to do:

If the light is steady:

  • No action is needed. The engine has simply gone into STOP mode while the car is stationary.

If the light flashes briefly:

  • No action is needed. STOP mode is not available for the moment, or the engine has restarted automatically.
  • For more detail, see the Starting & Operating section of your handbook.

Vehicle ready to drive (PHEV or BEV)

Vehicle ready to drive (PHEV or BEV) warning lamp icon

This green indicator is fitted to PHEV and BEV versions. It comes on steadily, with an audible signal, to show that the vehicle is ready to drive and the thermal comfort systems are available. It goes out once you reach a speed of approximately 5 km/h (3 mph) and comes back on when the vehicle stops moving.

What to do:

When the light comes on with the audible signal:

  • No action is needed. The vehicle is ready and you can drive away.

When the light goes out as you move off and returns when you stop:

  • This is normal behaviour.
  • The light goes out for good when you switch off the motor and get out of the vehicle.

Seat occupied/Seat belt fastened

This green seat belt symbol lights up steadily on the instrument panel. With the ignition on, it shows that the driver or a passenger has fastened their seat belt.

What to do:

  • No action is needed. The lamp simply confirms that a seat belt is fastened.

Direction indicators

This green arrow symbol flashes on the instrument panel together with an audible signal. It shows that the direction indicators are on.

What to do:

  • No action is needed while you are signalling.
  • Cancel the indicators once you have finished your manoeuvre.

Daytime running lights - Position lights

Daytime running lights - Position lights warning lamp icon

This green lighting symbol lights up steadily on the instrument panel. When there is enough ambient light, it shows that the daytime running lights are on. When the ambient light is too low, it shows that the position lights are on.

What to do:

  • No action is needed. This is for information only.

Dipped beam headlights

What to do:

  • No action is needed. This is for information only.

Automatic headlight dipping

This green symbol lights up steadily on the instrument panel. It shows that automatic headlight dipping has been activated via the touch screen and that the ring on the lighting control stalk is in the AUTO position.

What to do:

  • No action is needed. The function is working.
  • For more detail, see the Exterior Lighting section of your handbook.

  • No action is needed. This is for information only.

E-SAVE function (PHEV)

E-SAVE function (PHEV) warning lamp icon

This symbol is found on PHEV versions. It stays on steadily, together with the electric (BEV) range you have reserved, to show that the E-SAVE function is activated.

What to do:

  • No action is needed. The function is switched on.

Usage

Usage warning lamp icon

This symbol relates to the Usage page, which shows how the vehicle's equipment uses energy and how much energy reserve you have, in miles or kilometres. The blue graph shows energy taken directly from the traction battery, and the green graph shows energy recovered when slowing down and braking to recharge it. Average electrical consumption for the current trip is shown in kWh/100 km, along with earlier values.

What to do:

  • To use the energy reserve, select the BEV driving mode with the mode selector.
  • Avoid requesting more range than is available: the petrol engine would then start to recharge the traction battery, which leads to excessive fuel consumption.

If You're Not Sure

If a green or blue lamp behaves in a way you don't expect, or a message appears alongside it, check the relevant section of your vehicle handbook for that system. If a red or orange lamp comes on at the same time, treat that warning first and, if needed, seek the assistance of a workshop.

Green and blue lamps are there to keep you informed, not to alarm you. Once you know what each one means, you can glance at your Peugeot 408 dashboard and see at a glance which systems are on and working.
