When the car is connected, the instrument panel shows:
- Traction battery charge status (%).
- Remaining range (miles or km).
- Estimated charging time (the calculation may take a few seconds).
- Charging speed (miles or km gained per hour).
Once the instrument panel has gone into standby mode, you can bring this information back by unlocking the car or opening a door. You can also follow the charging progress in the MYPEUGEOT APP application. For more on this, see the Remotely operable additional functions section of the handbook.
Driving on a low charge: driving when the traction battery charge level is too low can cause the car to break down and can lead to accidents or serious injuries. Always make sure the traction battery has enough charge.
Parking on a low charge: if the outside temperature is below zero, the handbook recommends not leaving your car parked outside for several hours with a charge level below 20%.
Storing the car for more than 1 month: if the car is not used for more than 4 weeks and cannot be charged when you come back to it, self-discharge may make it impossible to restart if the traction battery charge is low or very low, especially in temperatures below zero. If you will not use the car for several weeks:
- Always make sure the traction battery has a charge between 20% and 40%.
- Do not connect the charging cable.
- Always park the car somewhere with temperatures between -10°C and 30°C, because extreme temperatures can damage the traction battery.
- See the 12 V battery/Accessory batteries - With rechargeable hybrid engines section of the handbook for the battery disconnection procedure.
Precautions
Rechargeable hybrid vehicles have been developed in line with the recommendations for maximum electromagnetic field limits set by the ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection - 1998 Guidelines).
If you wear a pacemaker or similar device, consult a doctor about any precautions you should take. You can also contact the manufacturer of your implanted electronic medical device to check that it is guaranteed to work in an environment that meets the ICNIRP guidelines. If in doubt, do not stay inside or near the car, the charging cable or the charging unit during charging, even for a short time.
Before charging, depending on your situation:
- Have a professional check that the electrical system you will use meets the applicable standards and is compatible with the car.
- Have a professional electrician install a dedicated domestic power socket or an accelerated charging unit (Wallbox) compatible with the car.
- Use the charging cable supplied with the car.
- For more information, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
During charging:
- As a safety measure, the engine will not start while the charging cable is plugged into the car's connector. A warning appears on the instrument panel.
- Unlocking the car stops charging.
- If you then do not open a door or the boot, or touch the charging nozzle, the car locks again after 30 seconds and charging resumes automatically.
- Never work under the bonnet. Some areas stay very hot even an hour after charging ends, so there is a risk of burns, and the fan can start at any time, so there is a risk of cuts or strangulation.
After charging:
- Check that the charging flap is closed.
- Do not leave the cable connected to the domestic power socket. There is a risk of short-circuit or electrocution if it comes into contact with water or is immersed in it.
Charging procedure
The steps differ slightly between domestic charging (mode 2) and accelerated charging with a Wallbox (mode 3).
Connection
- Prepare the car: make sure the gear selector is in mode P and the ignition is off, otherwise charging is impossible.
- Open the flap: press on the rear of the charging flap to open it. The light guides in the flap come on white.
- Check the connector: make sure there are no foreign bodies on the car's charging connector.
Domestic charging (mode 2)
- Plug in at the socket first: connect the charging cable from the control unit to the domestic socket. All the indicator lamps on the control unit light up, then only the POWER lamp stays on in green.
- Remove the cover: take the protective cover off the charging nozzle.
- Connect the car: insert the nozzle into the car's charging connector.
- Check charging has started: the green light guides in the flap and the green CHARGE lamp on the control unit flash. If they do not, charging has not started, so restart the procedure and make sure all connections are made properly.
The red indicator lamp in the flap comes on to show that the nozzle is locked.
Accelerated charging (mode 3)
- Prepare the Wallbox: follow the user instructions for the accelerated charging unit (Wallbox).
- Remove the cover: take the protective cover off the charging nozzle.
- Connect the car: insert the nozzle into the car's charging connector.
- Check charging has started: the green light guides in the flap flash. If they do not, charging has not started, so restart the procedure and make sure all connections are made properly.
The red indicator lamp in the flap comes on to show that the nozzle is locked.
Deferred charging
By default, the deferred charging start time is midnight. Depending on equipment, you can change this time. With PEUGEOT Connect Nav, go to the Energy touch screen menu and select the Charge page:
- Choose the time: set the charging start time.
- Confirm: press OK. The setting is saved in the system.
With PEUGEOT Connect Radio or PEUGEOT Connect Nav, you can also programme deferred charging at any time from a smartphone using the MYPEUGEOT APP application. See the Remotely operable additional functions section of the handbook for details.
To activate it:
- Connect the car: after programming deferred charging, connect the car to the charging equipment you want to use.
- Press the flap button: within one minute, press the deferred charging button in the flap. The light guides come on in blue to confirm.
Disconnection
- Release the nozzle: if the car is locked, unlock it. If it is unlocked, lock it and then unlock it again. If selective unlocking of the doors is activated, press the unlocking button on the remote control twice.
- Check the lamp: the red indicator lamp in the flap goes out to confirm that the nozzle is unlocked.
- Remove the nozzle: take the charging nozzle out within 30 seconds.
End of domestic charging (mode 2): charging has finished when the green CHARGE lamp on the control unit and the green light guides in the flap stay on fixed.
- Tidy up: after disconnecting, refit the protective cover over the nozzle and close the charging flap.
- Unplug at the socket: disconnect the control unit's charging cable from the domestic socket.
End of accelerated charging (mode 3): the Wallbox confirms the end of charging, and the green light guides in the flap stay on fixed.
- Tidy up: after disconnecting, put the nozzle back on the charging unit and close the charging flap.
