Orange lamps on your Peugeot 3008 warn you about a fault or tell you that a system has been switched off or is working. Many of them come with a message or an audible signal, and some can either stay on steadily or flash, which changes what they mean.

This guide covers the Peugeot 3008 II (2016-present), based on handbook edition ed01-23 for vehicles produced from 03/10/2023. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your car, so not every lamp here will apply to you.

Service

Service warning lamp iconService warning lamp icon

The Service lamp appears as a symbol on the instrument panel and always comes with a message. If it comes on temporarily, one or more minor faults have been detected that have no warning lamp of their own. If it stays on, one or more major faults of this kind have been detected, or, with the message “Audible Warning System fault: Repair needed”, the audible warning system has failed.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on temporarily:

  • Read the message on the instrument panel to find the cause.
  • Deal with simple faults yourself, such as changing the battery in the remote control.
  • For other faults, such as a fault with the tyre under-inflation detection system, go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on with a message about a major fault:

  • Read the message on the instrument panel to find the cause.
  • Then go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on with the audible warning system message:

  • Be aware that road signs recognition, Active Safety Brake/Collision Risk Alert, lane keeping assist and Driver Attention Warning by Camera may be disturbed or unavailable.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Release not available (with electric parking brake)

Release not available (with electric parking brake) warning lamp icon

This is the Service lamp, shown as a symbol on the instrument panel. It stays on with the message “Parking brake fault” when automatic release of the electric parking brake is unavailable.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Service

This alert uses the Service lamp together with the service spanner symbol. The Service lamp stays on while the service spanner flashes and then stays on, which means the servicing interval has been exceeded. The handbook notes this applies only with BlueHDi Diesel engines.

What to do:

  • Have your car serviced as soon as possible.

Engine pre-heating (Diesel)

Engine pre-heating (Diesel) warning lamp icon

This is the engine pre-heating symbol on the instrument panel. It comes on temporarily when you switch on the ignition if the weather and engine temperature make pre-heating necessary, for up to approximately 30 seconds in severe weather.

What to do:

  • Wait until the lamp goes off before starting the engine.
  • Once it goes off, the engine starts straight away if you press and hold the clutch pedal (manual gearbox) or the brake pedal (automatic gearbox).
  • If the engine does not start, ask it to start again while keeping your foot on the pedal.

Low fuel level

Low fuel level warning lamp icon

This is the fuel symbol on the instrument panel. It stays on with the reserve level shown in red, an audible signal and a message. When it first comes on, you have approximately 6 litres of fuel left, and until you refuel the alert repeats every time you switch on the ignition, more often as the level gets close to zero.

What to do:

  • Refuel without delay so you do not run out of fuel.
  • Never drive until the tank is completely empty, as this could damage the emissions control and injection systems.

Engine self-diagnostic system

Engine self-diagnostic system warning lamp icon

This is the engine self-diagnostic symbol on the instrument panel. If it flashes, the engine management system has a fault. If it stays on, the emissions control system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • Be aware there is a risk of the catalytic converter being destroyed.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on:

  • The lamp should go off once the engine is started.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

AdBlue® (BlueHDi)

AdBlue® (BlueHDi) warning lamp icon

This is the AdBlue® symbol on the instrument panel. It warns you that the AdBlue® level is getting low and always comes with a message showing the driving range or telling you that starting is prevented. How it lights up depends on how much range is left.

What to do:

If it comes on for around 30 seconds when you start the car (range between 1,500 and 500 miles, 2,400 and 800 km):

  • Top up the AdBlue®.

If it stays on when you switch on the ignition, with an audible signal (range between 500 and 62 miles, 800 and 100 km):

  • Top up the AdBlue® promptly, or go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it flashes with an audible signal and a range message (less than 62 miles, 100 km):

  • Top up the AdBlue® so the engine is not prevented from starting, or go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it flashes with an audible signal and a message saying starting is prevented (the AdBlue® tank is empty and the legally required immobiliser stops the engine from starting):

  • To restart the engine, top up the AdBlue® or contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
  • Make sure you add at least 10 litres of AdBlue® to the tank.

SCR emissions control system (BlueHDi)

SCR emissions control system (BlueHDi) warning lamp iconSCR emissions control system (BlueHDi) warning lamp iconSCR emissions control system (BlueHDi) warning lamp icon

This alert uses the AdBlue®, Service and Engine self-diagnostic lamps together, with an audible signal and a message. When they stay on as you switch on the ignition, a malfunction of the SCR emissions control system has been detected. When the AdBlue® lamp flashes with the other two on steadily, the message tells you either your remaining driving range, up to 685 miles (1,100 km) before the engine immobiliser is triggered, or that the limit has been exceeded and starting is prevented.

What to do:

If all three lamps stay on when you switch on the ignition:

  • The alert disappears once the exhaust emissions return to normal levels.

If the AdBlue® lamp flashes and the message shows a driving range:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay, so starting is not prevented.

If the AdBlue® lamp flashes and the message says starting is prevented:

  • To start the engine, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Automatic functions deactivated (electric parking brake)

Automatic functions deactivated (electric parking brake) warning lamp icon

This is the electric parking brake automatic functions symbol on the instrument panel. When it stays on, automatic application when you switch off the engine and automatic release when you accelerate are both deactivated.

What to do:

If automatic application and release are no longer possible:

  • Start the engine, apply the electric parking brake with its control and take your foot fully off the brake pedal.
  • Hold the control pressed in the release direction for between 10 and 15 seconds, then let go.
  • Press and hold the brake pedal, pull the control in the application direction for 2 seconds, then release both the control and the brake pedal.

Malfunction (with electric parking brake)

Malfunction (with electric parking brake) warning lamp iconMalfunction (with electric parking brake) warning lamp iconMalfunction (with electric parking brake) warning lamp icon

The parking brake malfunction lamp comes on steadily with the message “Parking brake fault”. If it appears with the Service lamp, the car cannot be held stationary with the engine running. If the Automatic functions deactivated lamp also comes on with them, the electric parking brake itself is faulty and both manual and automatic functions may not work.

What to do:

If the malfunction lamp comes on with the Service lamp:

  • If the manual apply and release commands do not work, the parking brake control is faulty.
  • Use the automatic functions at all times: they switch back on automatically if the control develops a fault.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the Automatic functions deactivated lamp comes on as well:

  • When stationary, pull the electric parking brake control and hold it for approximately 7 to 15 seconds, until the indicator lamp lights up on the instrument panel.
  • If that does not work, park on a level surface and engage a gear (manual gearbox), or select P and place the supplied chocks against one of the wheels (automatic gearbox).
  • Then contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Braking

This is the Collision Risk Alert/Active Safety Brake symbol. It flashes when the system briefly brakes the car to reduce the speed of a collision with the vehicle in front. When it stays on, the system has been switched off via the touch screen, has a fault, or its sensor is masked; together with a second lamp, it can also mean the system is temporarily off because the driver and/or front passenger (depending on version) has been detected but the seat belt is not fastened.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • See the Driving section of your handbook for more details.

If it stays on with a message and an audible signal:

  • The system has a fault: go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it stays on with the message “Driving Assistance Sensor blind: Clean sensor, see User Manual”:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Clean the front camera.

If it stays on together with the Service lamp:

  • The system has a fault: if both lamps come on again after you switch the engine off and restart it, go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning lamp icon

This is the ABS symbol on the instrument panel. When it stays on, the anti-lock braking system has a fault, although the car keeps its conventional braking.

  • Then go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Dynamic stability control /Anti-slip regulation (DSC)

Dynamic stability control /Anti-slip regulation (DSC) warning lamp iconDynamic stability control /Anti-slip regulation (DSC) warning lamp icon

There are two DSC lamps on the instrument panel. The deactivation lamp stays on when the DSC/ASR system is switched off. The DSC lamp flashes while DSC/ASR is working to correct a loss of grip or trajectory, and stays on if the system has a fault.

What to do:

If the deactivation lamp stays on:

  • The system switches back on automatically when you restart the car, and at speeds above approximately 31 mph (50 km/h).
  • Below 31 mph (50 km/h), you can switch it back on manually.

If the DSC lamp stays on:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Emergency brake malfunction (with electric parking brake)

It stays on when the system has been automatically deactivated or put on standby, or, with the message “Driving Assistance Sensor blind: Clean sensor, see User Manual”, when the sensor is masked; if it stays on with the Service lamp, a message and an audible signal, the system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • The system corrects your trajectory if it detects a risk of unintentionally crossing a line or hard shoulder (depending on version).
  • See the Driving section of your handbook for more details.

If the sensor is masked:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.
  • Clean the front camera.

If the lamp comes on with the Service lamp:

  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

This is the front passenger airbag OFF symbol. When it stays on, the front passenger airbag is deactivated and its control is set to “OFF”.

What to do:

  • You can fit a rearward facing child seat on the front passenger seat, unless there is an airbag fault (Airbags warning lamp on).

Under-inflation

Under-inflation warning lamp iconUnder-inflation warning lamp icon

This is the tyre under-inflation symbol. When it stays on by itself, the pressure in one or more tyres is too low. When it flashes and then stays on with the Service lamp on as well, the tyre pressure monitoring system is faulty.

What to do:

If the under-inflation lamp stays on by itself:

  • Check your tyre pressures as soon as possible.
  • Reinitialise the detection system after adjusting the pressures.

If it comes on with the Service lamp:

  • Tyre pressures are no longer being monitored, so check them as soon as possible.
  • Go to a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

This is the Stop & Start symbol, used on Petrol and Diesel versions. It stays on with a message when you have switched the system off manually, and stays on by itself when the system has switched itself off automatically. If it flashes and then stays on with a message, the system has a fault.

What to do:

If you switched the system off manually:

  • The engine will not switch off at the next traffic stop.
  • Switch the system back on via the touch screen.

If the system switched itself off automatically:

  • The engine will not switch off at the next traffic stop if the outside temperature is below 0°C or above +35°C.

What to do:

  • This lamp is for information: it confirms that the rear foglamps are on.

If You're Not Sure

If a lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, read the message on the screen and check the relevant section of your handbook. Some red or orange lamps come on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition and should go off once the engine starts. If a red or orange lamp comes on at any other time, there may be a fault that needs further investigation, so have it looked at by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Orange lamps rarely mean you have to stop straight away, but they are your Peugeot 3008 telling you something needs your attention. Take a moment to read the message, follow the steps above, and you will keep small issues from turning into bigger ones.
