Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning light

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning light warning lamp icon

This is the warning light for the anti-lock braking system (ABS). It comes on for a few seconds every time you switch on the ignition, which is normal. If it stays on, or comes on when you are driving above 8 mph (12 km/h), the ABS has a fault. If it lights up with an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, this also means there is a fault in the ABS. You still have conventional servo-assisted braking, but without the anti-lock function.

What to do:

  • Remember that the ABS is not working, although your normal servo-assisted brakes still are.
  • Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

Dynamic stability control system (ESP/ ASR) warning light

This is the warning light for the dynamic stability control system (ESP/ASR). It comes on for a few seconds every time you switch on the ignition. With the engine running and the car moving, it comes on when the system is activated. It stays lit with a message on the multifunction display when the system has been switched off. If it stays lit while the engine is running and the car is moving, it needs checking.

What to do:

If it comes on while the system is activated, or stays on with a message after you have switched the system off:

  • No further action is needed, as the light is showing you the status of the system.

If it stays lit with the engine running and the car moving:

  • Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

Emission control system warning light (according to model)

This is the emission control system warning light, fitted depending on the model. It comes on for a few seconds every time you switch on the ignition. If it comes on and stays on while the engine is running, the injection, ignition or emission control system is not working correctly. If it flashes, there is a risk of damage to the catalytic converter on petrol engines.

What to do:

If the light stays on with the engine running:

  • Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

If the light flashes:

  • Bear in mind there is a risk of damage to the catalytic converter on petrol engines.
  • Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

What to do:

If the light stays on when you switch on the ignition:

  • Wait until the light goes out before you start the engine.

If the light only comes on for less than a second:

  • You can start the engine straight away without waiting.

Low fuel level warning light

This is the low fuel level warning light. When it first comes on, you have enough fuel left to drive at least 30 miles (50 km). The fuel tank holds approximately 50 litres.

What to do:

  • Fill up with fuel at the next opportunity.

Passenger air bag disarmed warning light

This warning light shows the status of the passenger air bag. When it lights up with a message on the multifunction display, the passenger air bag has been switched off, and it stays lit for as long as the air bag remains switched off. If the light flashes, it needs checking.

What to do:

If the light is on steadily:

  • No further action is needed, as the light is confirming that the passenger air bag is switched off.

If the light flashes:

  • Always consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

Air bags warning light

This is the air bags warning light. It comes on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition, which is normal. If it lights up while the engine is running, together with an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, there is a fault in the air bags.

What to do:

  • Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

If You're Not Sure

If you are not sure what a light means, or it behaves differently from what is described here, check the handbook for your car and consult a PEUGEOT dealer. If you have any doubt about whether it is safe to carry on, stop somewhere safe first.
