Peugeot 206 CC Indicators: Orange Warnings (2004-2008)

What each orange warning light on the Peugeot 206 CC (2004-2008) means, from ABS and ESP to emission control and airbags, and what you should do next.

Orange warning lamps on your Peugeot 206 CC are there to tell you about a system fault, a function that has been switched off or something you need to deal with yourself. They are not usually an instruction to stop straight away, but you shouldn't ignore them.

This guide covers the Peugeot 206 CC built from 2004 to 2008 and is based on the handbook edition for cars produced from 1 April 2006. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your car, so you may not see every one listed here.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning light

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning light warning lamp icon

This is the warning light for the anti-lock braking system (ABS). It comes on for a few seconds every time you switch on the ignition, which is normal.

If it stays on, or comes on once you are above 8 mph (12 km/h), there is a fault with the ABS. You may also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display. Your car still has conventional servo-assisted braking.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully, bearing in mind that the ABS is not working.
  • Have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.

Dynamic stability control system (ESP/ASR) warning light

Dynamic stability control system (ESP/ASR) warning light warning lamp icon

This is the warning light for the dynamic stability control system (ESP/ASR). It comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition, and with the engine running and the car moving it comes on when the system is operating.

It stays lit, with a message on the multifunction display, when you have switched the system off. If it stays lit with the engine running and the car moving at other times, there is a problem with the system.

What to do:

If you have switched the ESP/ASR off:

  • The light is simply reminding you that the system is off.

If the light stays on while you are driving and you haven't switched the system off:

  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.

Emission control warning light (according to version)

Emission control warning light (according to version) warning lamp icon

This is the emission control warning light, fitted according to version. It comes on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition, which is normal.

If it comes on with the engine running, the injection, ignition or emission control system is not working properly. If it flashes, there is a risk of damage to the catalytic converter on petrol engines. On diesel engines, an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display warn you that the particle emission filter (PEF) is starting to clog, which happens after exceptionally long spells of urban driving such as low speeds and long traffic jams.

What to do:

If the light stays on with the engine running:

  • Have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.

If the light flashes:

  • Have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.

If you get the particle filter (PEF) warning on a diesel:

  • As soon as traffic allows, drive at 40 mph (60 km/h) or above for at least five minutes, until the message disappears, so the filter can regenerate.
  • If the warning keeps coming back, see a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.

Diesel engine pre-heat warning light

This is the pre-heat warning light on diesel engines. It comes on when you switch on the ignition to show that the engine is pre-heating before you start it.

If the engine is already warm enough, the light comes on for less than one second.

What to do:

If the light stays on:

  • Wait until the light goes out before you start the engine.

If the light only comes on briefly:

  • You can start the engine straight away.

Low fuel level warning light

Low fuel level warning light warning lamp icon

This is the low fuel level warning light. When it first comes on, you still have enough fuel to drive at least 30 miles (50 km).

The fuel tank holds approximately 47 litres.

What to do:

  • Fill up with fuel as soon as you can.

Passenger air bag disarmed warning light

Passenger air bag disarmed warning light warning lamp icon

This is the warning light for the passenger air bag, fitted according to country. When it comes on with a message on the multifunction display, the passenger air bag is disarmed, and it stays lit for as long as the air bag remains disarmed.

If the light flashes, something is wrong.

What to do:

If the light is on steadily:

  • Bear in mind that the passenger air bag will not deploy while it is disarmed.

If the light flashes:

  • Always have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.

Air bags warning light

This is the air bags warning light. It comes on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition, which is normal.

If it comes on with the engine running, along with an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, there is a fault in the air bags.

What to do:

  • Have the air bags checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.

If You're Not Sure

If a lamp comes on and you can't tell which one it is, or it looks different from the ones described here, check the handbook that came with your car. If you are still unsure, stop somewhere safe and ask a PEUGEOT dealer for advice.

Orange lamps on your 206 CC give you time to react, but they are worth taking seriously. Deal with the simple ones yourself, such as refuelling or waiting for the pre-heat light, and have any fault warnings checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
