Red warning lamps are the most serious lights on your dashboard. They point to a major fault or to something that needs your attention straight away, so it pays to know what each one means before you see it on the road.

This guide covers the Peugeot Partner Tepee II, based on the handbook for vehicles produced from 1 March 2017 onwards. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your vehicle, so you may not see every one of them on yours.

STOP

Red stop warning light

This is the red STOP warning lamp. It comes on steadily together with another warning lamp and a message on the screen. It signals a major fault linked to the brake fluid level, engine oil pressure and temperature, engine coolant temperature, electronic brake force distribution or power steering warning lamps.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Park and switch off the ignition.
  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine coolant temperature and level

Coolant temperature warning light

This red lamp warns about the engine coolant. It comes on steadily with the temperature needle in the red zone, which means the engine temperature has risen abnormally.

What to do:

  • Park and switch off the ignition.
  • Let the engine cool down.
  • Check the coolant level visually.

Engine oil pressure and temperature

Oil pressure warning light

This red lamp warns about the engine oil. If it stays on while you are driving, the oil pressure is too low or the oil temperature is too high. If it stays on even though the oil level is correct, there is a major fault.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on while you are driving:

  • Park and switch off the ignition.
  • Let the engine cool down.
  • Check the engine oil level visually, using the Checking levels section of your handbook.

If the lamp stays on even though the oil level is correct:

  • Have the vehicle checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Battery charge

Battery charge warning light

This red lamp relates to the battery and charging system. When it stays on, there is a fault in the charging circuit. When it flashes, active functions have been put on standby in economy mode. If it stays on even after you have checked the battery terminals, there is a fault with the ignition or injection system.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on:

  • Check the battery terminals.
  • See the Battery section of your handbook for more information.

If the lamp is flashing:

  • See the Battery section of your handbook for more information on economy mode.

If the lamp stays on despite your checks:

  • Have the vehicle checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Seat belt not fastened

Red seat belt warning light

This red lamp is the seat belt reminder. If it comes on and then starts flashing, the driver and/or front passenger has not fastened their seat belt. If it comes on with an audible signal and then stays on, the vehicle is moving with the driver's and/or front passenger's seat belt unfastened.

What to do:

If the lamp comes on and then flashes:

  • Pull the seat belt strap across you and push the tongue into the buckle.

If the lamp comes on with an audible signal while you are moving:

  • Pull on the strap to check that the seat belt is fastened correctly.

Power steering

Red power steering warning light

This red lamp warns about the power steering. When it stays on, the power steering has a fault. You can still steer the vehicle, but without any assistance.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully, as the steering will feel heavier without assistance.
  • Have the vehicle checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Opening detection

Red door open warning light

This red lamp warns about the vehicle's openings. It comes on steadily with a message on the screen when one of the doors or other access openings is not properly closed.

What to do:

  • Check that all the doors and other access openings are properly closed.

Parking brake

Red brake warning light

This is the red braking lamp. When it stays on, the parking brake is applied or has not been fully released.

What to do:

  • Keep your foot on the brake pedal.
  • Release the parking brake fully so that the lamp goes out.

Brake fluid level

Red brake warning light

The same red braking lamp is also used for the brake fluid. When it stays on, the brake fluid level is too low.

What to do:

  • Top up the brake fluid with a fluid approved by PEUGEOT.

Electronic brake force distribution

Red brake warning light

For this warning, the red braking lamp comes on together with the ABS warning lamp. If both stay on even though the brake fluid level is correct, there is a fault with the electronic brake force distribution system.

What to do:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Park and switch off the ignition.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If You're Not Sure

If a red lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, stay calm, stop somewhere safe and check the message on the screen against the descriptions above. If you still have doubts, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop before driving on.

Red lamps on your Partner Tepee II are there to protect you and the vehicle, so never ignore them. Knowing what each one means helps you react quickly and safely whenever one lights up.
