Peugeot 508 I Indicators: Green and Blue Warnings (2010-2014)

Green and blue lamps on your instrument panel are mostly good news. They confirm that a system you have switched on, such as your indicators, headlamps or foglamps, is working. One lamp in this group can also flash to warn you of a fault, so it is worth knowing what each one means.

This guide covers the first-generation Peugeot 508 (508 I, 2010-2014), based on the handbook edition for vehicles produced from February 2014. Some lamps only appear on certain versions or with certain equipment, so your car may not show all of them.

Stop & Start

Stop & Start warning lamp icon

This lamp shows the Stop & Start symbol. When it stays on steadily, the Stop & Start system has put the engine into STOP mode because the car has stopped, for example at traffic lights or in a traffic jam. If it flashes for a few seconds and then goes off, either STOP mode is temporarily unavailable or START mode has been triggered automatically.

What to do:

If the lamp is on steadily:

  • You do not need to do anything. As soon as you want to move off, the engine restarts automatically in START mode and the lamp goes off.

If the lamp flashes for a few seconds, then goes off:

  • For more on the special cases where STOP mode or START mode behave differently, see the "Stop & Start" section of your handbook.

Directional headlamps

This lamp shows the directional headlamps symbol. If it flashes, the directional headlamps system has a fault.

What to do:

  • Have the directional headlamps system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If You're Not Sure

If a lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, check how it is behaving: whether it is steady or flashing, and whether there is a buzzer or a message on the instrument panel screen. Your handbook explains that reading the type of lighting together with what the car is doing tells you whether things are normal or whether there is a fault. If you are still unsure, stop somewhere safe and check the handbook before carrying on.

Most green and blue lamps on your Peugeot 508 are simply there to reassure you that a system is doing its job. Getting to know them means you will spot straight away when one is telling you something more, such as a flashing directional headlamps lamp.
