How to Check Peugeot 508 Warning Lights and Displays
Peugeot 508 trip computer and counter reset, 10-inch touchscreen controls, applications wall, hybrid Energy app, e-SAVE and MYPEUGEOT APP.
In the 508, the instrument panel and the 10-inch touchscreen work together. The trip computer data sits in front of you, while apps such as Energy live on the central screen. This guide explains how to check your trip data, what each reading means, and how to use the touchscreen apps and remote functions.
It's based on the official Peugeot 508 owner's handbook for the second-generation 508 Fastback and SW (2018 on).
Trip Computer
The 508's trip computer shows key information about your current journey. It displays data such as fuel consumption, average speed and distance travelled in real time, helping you make better-informed decisions on the road.
Trip Computer Features
The trip computer works in two main modes on the instrument panel:
- "Personal" display mode: when selected, the trip computer data is displayed permanently on the instrument panel, so you always have up-to-date journey data.
- Other display modes: press the end of the wiper control stalk and the trip computer data appears on screen for a set time, so you can quickly check what you need.
Displaying the Different Tabs
Press the button on the end of the wiper control stalk to cycle through the following tabs:
Current Information
- Driving range (petrol or diesel).
- Current consumption (petrol or diesel).
- Stop & Start time counter (petrol or diesel).
- Percentage of distance driven in fully electric mode (plug-in hybrid).
Trip "1" and "2"
Pressing the end of the wiper stalk once and then twice opens these screens in turn. They show:
- Average speed.
- Average fuel consumption.
- Distance travelled.
Average speed and fuel consumption help you understand your fuel economy and adjust your driving if needed. For plug-in hybrid owners, tracking the share of driving in fully electric mode helps you make the most of the car's electric potential.
Trip Computer
Resetting the Peugeot 508 Trip Counters
Resetting the trip counters clears the data from previous journeys so you can start a new one from zero. It's especially useful after long journeys or for comparing different driving conditions.
Reset the Counters
To reset the counters:
- Display the trip you want on the instrument panel.
- Press and hold the button on the end of the wiper control stalk for more than 2 seconds.
- This works for both trip "1" and trip "2". The two counters are independent and are reset the same way.
Using the Counters Independently
Trips "1" and "2" are used independently, so you can track data separately for different journeys or driving conditions. For example, you might use trip "1" for daily driving in town and trip "2" for weekend trips.
Benefits
- Data tracking: track specific data for different journeys and driving conditions.
- Performance analysis: see how different driving modes and conditions affect fuel consumption and average speed.
- Personalised driving data: build data sets that match how you use the car.
Peugeot 508 Trip Computer Definitions
Range

Definition: the estimated distance the car can cover on the fuel left in the tank, based on the average consumption over the last few kilometres (or miles). It updates when your current consumption changes significantly with your driving style or road conditions. When the range drops below 30 km, dashes appear on the display. After adding at least 5 litres of fuel, it is recalculated and shown on the instrument panel once it exceeds 100 km. If dashes appear instead of figures while driving, there is a fault and you should consult a PEUGEOT dealer or qualified workshop.
Current Consumption

Definition: the car's fuel consumption over the last few seconds. It is shown only when the car is travelling above 30 km/h and updates continuously with the driving conditions.
Average Consumption

Definition: the car's average fuel consumption since the trip computer was last reset, showing how economically you've driven over the journey.
Average Speed

Definition: the average speed since the trip computer was last reset, over a particular journey or period.
Distance Travelled

Definition: the total distance covered since the trip computer was last reset.
Stop & Start Time Counter

Definition: if the car has Stop & Start, this counter adds up the total time spent in STOP mode during the journey, covering the periods when the car is stopped in traffic and the engine switches off and restarts automatically. It resets automatically every time you switch on the ignition.
10-Inch Touchscreen
At the centre of the 508's cabin, the 10-inch touchscreen gives you a wide range of functions. It doesn't just show the car's basic information; it also gives easy access to a series of key controls and features, making driving richer and safer.
Functions of the 10-Inch Touchscreen

Safety Warning
Safety always comes first. To avoid distraction while driving, carry out any operation that needs sustained attention after stopping the car. Access to some functions may also be restricted while driving to help keep you safe on the road.
Recommendations
The 508's 10-inch touchscreen uses capacitive technology for easy, intuitive access to the car's functions. Here are some tips on using and caring for the screen, plus pointers on the main controls and navigation.
Tips for Using and Caring for the Touchscreen
- Avoid sharp objects: don't let anything pointed touch the screen surface, to avoid damaging it.
- Don't touch it with wet hands: keeping your hands dry improves the accuracy of touch detection.
- Clean it with a soft cloth: use a soft, clean cloth that won't scratch the screen.

Energy Application
The Energy application on the 508 plug-in hybrid offers a range of functions to optimise how the car uses and manages energy. It lets you monitor and manage the energy flow, consumption statistics, charging settings and e-SAVE function in real time. Its main features:
Energy Flow

- Active driving mode: shows which mode the car is running in (electric, hybrid).
- Petrol engine and electric motor(s): show the current status of each energy source.
- Traction battery charge level: shows the battery's current state of charge.
- Energy flow colour codes: blue (100% electric energy), white (energy from the petrol engine) and green (energy recovery).
Statistics

- Average electricity consumption: in kWh/100 km for current and past journeys.
- Average fuel consumption: in l/100 km for current and past journeys.
Energy production and consumption graphs: energy drawn directly from the traction battery (blue graph) and energy generated during braking/deceleration (green graph).
Charging
Deferred charging: schedule charging for a particular time to further optimise the car's energy use.
e-SAVE

- Energy reserve function: e-SAVE keeps electrical energy in reserve for a set distance, so you can use it later, for example in zones reserved for electric vehicles or in town to cut emissions.
- Switching to Electric mode with the drive mode selector: when you want to use the energy reserve, select Electric mode to drive the car fully electrically.
The 508 plug-in hybrid also offers additional remote functions, managed from a smartphone through the MYPEUGEOT APP, so you can make even better use of the plug-in hybrid system. Here's what they are and how to use them:
Additional Remote Functions
- Traction battery charge management: plan the traction battery's charging and manage deferred charging settings. This is especially handy for charging when energy tariffs are cheaper.
- Thermal preconditioning management: set the cabin to the temperature you want before you set off, making the car more comfortable on cold winter or hot summer days.
- Charge status and range: check the car's current charge level and estimated electric range in real time.
Setup Procedure
- Download the MYPEUGEOT APP from your smartphone's app store.
- Create an account in the app.
- Enter the Vehicle Identification Number shown on your vehicle registration document.
Network Coverage
To use the remote functions, make sure the car is within mobile network coverage. Where the signal is weak or absent, such as in underground car parks, the app may show a message saying it can't communicate with the car. This can vary depending on the car's location and surroundings.
Make It a Habit
- Reset a trip counter at each fill-up or charge to track your real-world economy
- Customise the instrument panel display so the information you use most is always visible
- Keep the touchscreen and its software up to date. Our Peugeot software update guide explains how
- Don't adjust settings while you're driving: pull over first, or ask a passenger to do it
