Peugeot 4008 I Indicators: Orange Warnings (2011-present)

What every orange warning lamp on the Peugeot 4008 means and what to do, from engine and ABS faults to tyre pressure, pre-heating and ASC/TCL.

Orange warning lamps on your Peugeot 4008 tell you that a system has a fault, that something needs your attention, or that a system has been switched on or off. Some come on briefly when you switch on the ignition and should go off once the engine starts. If one stays on, check what it means before you move off.

This guide covers the first-generation Peugeot 4008 (2011-present) and is based on handbook edition ed01-16, which applies to vehicles produced from 03/10/2016. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your car, so you may not see all of them.

Engine selfdiagnosis system

Engine selfdiagnosis system warning lamp icon

This orange lamp shows the engine selfdiagnosis symbol. If it flashes, the engine management system has a fault. If it stays on steadily, the emission control system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • Be aware that there is a risk of damaging the catalytic converter beyond repair.
  • Have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp is on steadily:

  • The lamp should go off once the engine has started.
  • If it stays on, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

  • Drive carefully and at a reduced speed.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Airbags and pretensioners

This orange lamp shows the airbag symbol. It normally comes on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition and then goes off. If it stays on steadily, there is a fault with one of the airbag or seat belt pretensioner systems.

What to do:

When you switch on the ignition:

  • Check that the lamp goes off after a few seconds.
  • If it does not go off, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on steadily:

  • Have the airbag and pretensioner systems checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Under-inflation

This orange lamp shows the tyre pressure symbol, and it comes on together with a message. If it stays on steadily, the pressure in one or more tyres is too low. If it flashes and then stays on, the system has a fault and/or a sensor has not been detected on one or more wheels.

What to do:

If the lamp is on steadily with a message:

  • Check your tyre pressures as soon as possible, ideally with the tyres cold.
  • Reinitialise the system after adjusting any tyre pressure and after replacing any wheel.
  • See the Under-inflation detection section of the handbook for more details.

If the lamp flashes and then stays on with a message:

  • Your tyre pressures are no longer being monitored.
  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Rear foglamps

This orange lamp shows the rear foglamp symbol. When it is on steadily, your rear foglamps are switched on.

What to do:

  • To switch the rear foglamps off, turn the ring on the lighting stalk rearwards.

Diesel engine pre-heating

This orange lamp shows the diesel pre-heating symbol. It stays on steadily when the engine is cold and either the ignition switch is at the ON position or the START/STOP button has been pressed with the ignition on.

What to do:

  • With key starting, wait until the lamp goes off before you start the engine. With the Keyless entry and Starting system, the engine will only start once the lamp has gone off.
  • How long the lamp stays on depends on the weather, up to 30 seconds in severe conditions.
  • If the engine does not start, switch the ignition off and on again, wait for the lamp to go off once more, then start the engine.

Active stability control and traction control (ASC/TCL)

This orange lamp shows the ASC/TCL symbol. If it flashes, the ASC/TCL systems are working to improve traction and keep the car stable. If it stays on steadily, there is a fault in the ASC/TCL systems.

What to do:

If the lamp is flashing:

  • The systems are improving traction and the car's directional stability.
  • Adapt your driving and moderate your speed.

If the lamp is on steadily:

  • Have the ASC/TCL systems checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

ASC/TCL

This orange lamp shows the ASC/TCL off symbol. When it is on steadily, the ASC/TCL off switch at the bottom of the dashboard on the driver's side has been pressed and the active stability control and traction control are switched off.

What to do:

  • Press the switch again to turn ASC/TCL back on.
  • ASC/TCL switches on automatically each time you start the car.

Stop & Start system (Auto Stop & Go)

This orange lamp shows the Stop & Start symbol. If it stays on steadily, the Stop & Start (AS&G) off switch at the bottom of the dashboard on the driver's side has been pressed and the system is switched off. If it flashes, there is a fault with the Stop & Start system.

What to do:

If the lamp is on steadily:

  • Press the switch again to turn the Stop & Start (AS&G) system back on.

If the lamp is flashing:

  • Have the Stop & Start system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If You're Not Sure

If an orange lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, read any message shown on the instrument panel screen, as it can help you identify the problem. If you are still unsure or the lamp stays on, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Most orange lamps on your Peugeot 4008 are not an emergency, but they should not be ignored. Deal with the ones that need your attention, and have any faults checked so your car keeps working as it should.
