This red lamp covers the handbrake, the brake fluid level and the electronic brake force distribution. It works together with the central STOP lamp and comes on for a few seconds each time you switch on the ignition. When it comes on at other times, you will also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display.
It can mean one of three things. Either the handbrake is applied or has not been fully released, or the brake fluid level has dropped too far, which is the case if the lamp stays on with the handbrake released. Or, if the ABS warning lamp is also on, there is a fault with the electronic brake force distribution.
What to do:
If the handbrake is applied or not fully released:
- Release the handbrake fully.
If the lamp stays on with the handbrake released (low brake fluid level):
- Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
- Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
If the lamp comes on together with the ABS warning lamp (electronic brake force distribution fault):
- Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
- Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Seat belt unfastened/not fastened warning light

This red lamp reminds you about the driver's seat belt. When you switch on the ignition, it comes on if your seat belt is not fastened. With the engine running and the doors closed, it goes out automatically after 30 seconds.
If your seat belt is unfastened while you are driving, the lamp behaves differently depending on your speed. Below 12 mph (20 km/h), it stays on steadily. Above 12 mph (20 km/h), it flashes for two minutes with an audible signal that gets louder, and after those two minutes it stays on until you fasten your belt.
What to do:
If the lamp is on steadily below 12 mph (20 km/h):
If the lamp is flashing with an audible signal above 12 mph (20 km/h):
Engine oil pressure warning light *

This red lamp is the engine oil pressure warning, and it works together with the central STOP lamp. If it comes on while the engine is running, you will also hear an audible signal and see a message on the multifunction display. This means you must stop immediately.
What to do:
- Stop immediately, somewhere safe.
- If the engine is low on oil, top up the engine oil.
- Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without delay.
If You're Not Sure
If a red lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, stay calm and stop somewhere safe when you can. Read the message on the multifunction display, check the guidance for that lamp above, and contact a PEUGEOT dealer if the lamp tells you to.
Red lamps on your Peugeot 307 are worth taking seriously, but most are easy to deal with once you know what they mean. Keep this guide handy, and look out for our posts on the other warning lamp colours too.
