Peugeot 108 Tyre Pressure and Under-Inflation Detection (2015-present)

How the Peugeot 108 under-inflation detection works, what to do when the alert comes on, how to reinitialise it and where to find the tyre label.

A Peugeot 108 (2015-present) stopped beside a coastal road at blue hour with its hazard lights on (maintenance and practical)

Your Peugeot 108 can monitor tyre pressure while you drive and warn you if one or more tyres lose pressure. This guide explains how the under-inflation detection system works, what to do when the alert comes on, how to reinitialise the system and where to find the tyre label and identification markings.

Under-inflation detection

The under-inflation detection system monitors the pressure in all four tyres automatically once the car is moving. It compares information from the wheel speed sensors with reference values, and it triggers an alert as soon as it detects a drop in pressure in one or more tyres.

The reference values must be reinitialised after every tyre pressure adjustment or wheel change.

Keep in mind:

  • The system does not replace the need for you to stay vigilant as a driver.
  • You still need to check the tyre pressures, including the spare wheel, every month and before a long journey.
  • Driving with under-inflated tyres impairs handling, extends braking distances and causes early tyre wear, particularly with heavy loads, at high speeds or on long journeys.
  • Under-inflated tyres also increase fuel consumption.

Checking the pressures:

  • The tyre pressure specifications for your car are on the tyre pressure label (see Identification markings below).
  • Check the pressures when the tyres are cold: the car has been stopped for 1 hour, or has done a journey of less than 6 miles (10 km) at moderate speeds.
  • If the tyres are hot, add 0.3 bar to the pressures shown on the label.

Under-inflation alert

The under-inflation alert is shown by the warning lamp coming on and staying on, together with an audible signal.

What to do:

  1. Slow down: reduce speed immediately, and avoid excessive steering movements and sudden braking.
  2. Stop: stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  3. Check the pressures: if you have a compressor, such as the one in the temporary puncture repair kit, check the pressure of all four tyres. If you cannot do this straight away, drive carefully at reduced speed.
  4. If you have a puncture: use the temporary puncture repair kit or the spare wheel, depending on your car's equipment.

A loss of pressure does not always make the tyre look deformed, so do not rely on a visual check alone. The alert stays active until you reinitialise the system.

Reinitialisation

You must reinitialise the system after adjusting the pressure in one or more tyres, and after changing one or more wheels. A label on the driver's side centre pillar reminds you of this.

Before you start, make sure the pressures in all four tyres are correct for how you are using the car and match the tyre pressure label. The alert can only be relied on if the system was reinitialised with all four tyres correctly inflated. If a pressure is wrong when you reinitialise, the system will not warn you about it.

Reinitialise the system with the ignition on (switch in the "ON" position or "ON" mode) and the car stationary.

  1. Open the glove box.
  2. Press the reinitialisation button: when the indicator flashes 3 times in the instrument panel, the reinitialisation is complete.
  3. Wait: wait a few minutes before switching off the ignition (switch to "ACC" or "LOCK" position, or "OFF" mode).

The system then uses the newly saved pressures as its reference values. You do not need to reinitialise it after fitting or removing snow chains.

Operating fault

If the under-inflation warning lamp flashes and then stays on, there is a fault with the system and your tyres are no longer being monitored for under-inflation.

Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop. After any work on the system, the pressures of all four tyres must be checked and the system reinitialised.

Identification markings

The handbook shows these markings for both 3-door and 5-door versions.

  • A. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the bodywork: stamped on the middle door pillar or rear door pillar, right-hand side.
  • B. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the passenger compartment: stamped on the crossmember, under the front right-hand seat.
  • C. Tyre label: on the middle door pillar, driver's side. It shows the tyre sizes and the inflation pressures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the tyre pressure warning light mean on a Peugeot 108?

If the lamp stays on with an audible signal, the system has detected a drop in pressure in one or more tyres. If it flashes and then stays on, there is a fault with the system itself.

How do I reset the tyre pressure warning on my Peugeot 108?

With the ignition on and the car stationary, open the glove box and press the reinitialisation button until the indicator flashes 3 times in the instrument panel. Then wait a few minutes before switching off the ignition.

Where is the tyre pressure label on a Peugeot 108?

The tyre label is on the middle door pillar on the driver's side. It shows the tyre sizes and the inflation pressures.

Do I need to reset the tyre pressure system after fitting snow chains?

No, the system does not need to be reinitialised after fitting or removing snow chains. You do need to reinitialise it after adjusting tyre pressures or changing a wheel.

The under-inflation detection system is a useful backup, but it works best when you check your tyre pressures regularly and reinitialise the system with all four tyres set correctly. Keep this guide handy, and for full details, see the relevant section of your handbook.
