Generalities relating to changing a bulb

In some weather conditions, such as low temperature or humidity, you may see misting on the inside of the headlamp and rear lamp glass. This is normal and it clears after the lamps have been on for a few minutes.

The headlamps have polycarbonate lenses with a protective coating, so you need to clean them carefully:

  • Avoid: dry or abrasive cloths, detergents and solvent products.
  • Use: a sponge and soapy water, or a pH neutral product.
  • High-pressure washer: if you use one on stubborn marks, do not point the lance at the headlamps, lamps or their edges for too long. This could damage the protective coating and the seals.

Light-emitting diode (LED) headlamps and lamps

Depending on version, these headlamps and lamps use LED technology:

  • LED technology headlamps.
  • Peugeot Matrix LED headlamps.
  • Offset daytime running lamps/sidelamps/direction indicators.
  • Direction indicator side repeaters.
  • Side spotlamps.
  • Full LED technology rear lamps.
  • LED technology rear lamps.
  • Brake lamps.
  • Third brake lamp.
  • Number plate lamps.

You cannot replace these yourself. Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop. Never touch LED or Full LED technology headlamps, because there is a risk of electrocution. Do not look too closely at the light beam of LED technology lamps either, as it can cause serious eye injury.

Front lamps

The front lamp layout depends on which headlamps your 308 has. The numbers match the positions shown in the handbook.

4Daytime running lamps/Sidelamps-

All of these are LED lamps, so a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop must replace them.

Rear lamps

Your 308 has either LED lamps or Full LED 3D lamps at the rear. The handbook lists these rear lamps:

  • Direction indicators (LED)
  • Brake lamps/sidelamps (LED)
  • Sidelamps (LED)
  • Foglamps (P21W)
  • Reversing lamps (W16W)

You can change the foglamp and reversing lamp bulbs yourself from outside the rear bumper:

  1. Remove the screws: using a Torx screwdriver, take out the fixing screw(s) from the access flap under the bumper.
  2. Remove the flap: unclip the access flap.
  3. Remove the bulb holder: turn it a quarter turn and take it out.
  4. Foglamp: turn the bulb a quarter turn and replace it.
  5. Reversing lamp: pull out the bulb and replace it.

If you change a bulb within a few minutes of switching off the ignition, take care not to touch the exhaust, as you could burn yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the headlamp bulbs on my Peugeot 308 myself?

No. The headlamps on the 308 use LED or Peugeot Matrix LED technology, so a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop must replace them.

What bulb does the Peugeot 308 rear foglamp use?

The rear foglamp uses a P21W bulb. You reach it through the access flap under the rear bumper.

What bulb is the reversing light on a Peugeot 308?

The reversing lamp uses a W16W bulb. After removing the bulb holder, you pull the bulb straight out to replace it.

Why is there condensation inside my Peugeot 308 headlamp?

Misting inside the headlamps and rear lamps is normal in some weather conditions, such as low temperature or humidity. It clears after the lamps have been on for a few minutes.

On your Peugeot 308, the rear foglamp and reversing lamp are the only bulbs you can change yourself, and it only takes a Torx screwdriver. For any LED lamp, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
