Green and blue lamps on your instrument panel are indicator lamps. They confirm that a system has come into operation, such as your headlamps, your wipers or Stop & Start. They are there to keep you informed, not to warn you of a fault.

This guide covers the second-generation Peugeot 308 (308 II), based on the handbook edition for vehicles produced from 1 November 2014. Some lamps depend on the version or equipment of your car, so you may not see every one listed here.

Stop & Start

Stop & Start warning lamp icon

This indicator lamp shows the Stop & Start symbol. It can stay on steadily or flash briefly, and each tells you something different.

If it stays on steadily, the Stop & Start system has put the engine into STOP mode because the car has stopped, for example at red lights or in a traffic jam.

If it flashes for a few seconds and then goes off, either STOP mode is temporarily unavailable or START mode has been triggered automatically.

What to do:

If the lamp is on steadily:

  • Simply carry on as normal. As soon as you want to move off, the lamp goes off and the engine restarts automatically in START mode.

If the lamp flashes for a few seconds, then goes off:

  • For more on the special cases affecting STOP mode and START mode, see the "Stop & Start" section of your handbook.

Blind spot sensors (depending on version)

This indicator lamp shows the blind spot sensors symbol and is only fitted on some versions. It stays on steadily when the blind spot monitoring function has been activated.

What to do:

  • For more details on how blind spot monitoring works, see the blind spot sensors section of your handbook.

If You're Not Sure

If a lamp comes on and you are not sure what it means, check whether a message has appeared on the instrument panel screen, as this will explain the situation. If you have any problems, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Green and blue lamps are good news: they simply confirm that the system you have chosen is working. Getting to know them means you can keep your eyes on the road and spend less time wondering what your Peugeot 308 is telling you.
