Peugeot 3008 I Indicators: Orange Warnings (2014-2016)

Orange warning lights on the Peugeot 3008 I (2014-2016) explained: what each lamp means, how it lights up and what you should do next.

Orange lamps on your instrument panel tell you that a system is switched on or off, that something needs your attention, or that a fault has been found. Some come on steadily and some flash, and the way a lamp lights up, together with what the car is doing, tells you whether everything is normal or something is wrong. Some may also come with a beep and a message on the multifunction screen.

This guide covers the first-generation Peugeot 3008 (2014-2016), based on the handbook for vehicles produced from 1 September 2015. Some lamps only appear on certain versions or with certain equipment, so your car may not have all of them.

Rear foglamps

Rear foglamps warning lamp icon

This is the orange rear foglamp indicator on your instrument panel. When it stays on steadily, your rear foglamps are switched on.

What to do:

  • To switch the rear foglamps off, turn the ring on the lighting stalk towards the rear.

Diesel engine pre-heating

Diesel engine pre-heating warning lamp icon

This is the orange Diesel pre-heating lamp. It stays on steadily when the ignition switch is in the second position, with the ignition on.

What to do:

  • Wait until the lamp goes off before you start the engine.
  • How long it stays on depends on the weather conditions.

Deactivation of the automatic functions of the electric parking brake

Deactivation of the automatic functions of the electric parking brake warning lamp icon

This is the orange lamp for the automatic electric parking brake functions. When it stays on steadily, the automatic application when you switch off the engine and the automatic release are either switched off or faulty.

What to do:

  • Switch the function back on in the vehicle configuration menu, if your country of sale allows it.
  • If automatic application or release still does not work, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
  • For more on the electric parking brake, see the relevant section of your handbook.

Foot on the brake pedal

Foot on the brake pedal warning lamp icon

This is the orange foot on brake pedal lamp. When it stays on steadily, you have not pressed the brake pedal. When it flashes on a car with an electronic gearbox, you have been holding the car on a slope with the accelerator for too long and the clutch is overheating.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on steadily:

  • Press the brake pedal firmly to start the engine with an electronic gearbox, with the lever in position N.
  • Press the brake pedal firmly to release the parking brake by hand.

If the lamp flashes:

  • Hold the car with the brake pedal, the electric parking brake, or both, instead of the accelerator.

Passenger's airbag system

Passenger's airbag system warning lamp icon

This is the orange passenger airbag lamp. When it stays on steadily, the control in the glove box is set to OFF and the passenger front airbag is switched off. You can fit a rearward facing child seat, unless there is an airbag fault and the Airbag warning lamp is on.

What to do:

  • To switch the passenger front airbag back on, set the control in the glove box to ON.
  • With the airbag switched on, do not fit a child seat facing rearwards.

Service

Service warning lamp icon

This is the orange Service lamp. If it comes on briefly with a message, one or more minor faults have been found that have no lamp of their own. If it stays on with a message, one or more major faults of this kind have been found. On BlueHDi Diesel versions, if it stays on while the service spanner flashes and then stays lit, the servicing interval has passed.

What to do:

If it comes on briefly with a message:

  • Read the message on the screen to find out what the problem is.
  • You can sort some problems yourself, such as an open door. If the particle filter is starting to clog, drive at 40 mph (60 km/h) or more, when traffic allows, until the lamp goes off.
  • For other problems, such as a fault with the tyre under-inflation detection system, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it stays on with a message:

  • Read the message on the screen to find out what the problem is.
  • Then contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it stays on with the service spanner:

  • Have your car serviced as soon as possible.

Electric parking brake fault

This is the orange electric parking brake fault lamp. When it stays on steadily, the electric parking brake has a fault.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop straight away.
  • For more on the electric parking brake, see the relevant section of your handbook.

Braking

Braking warning lamp iconBraking warning lamp icon

This is the braking lamp, and it can come on in two ways. If it stays on together with the electric parking brake fault lamp while the parking brake is released, the braking system has a fault. If it stays on together with the STOP and ABS lamps, the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) system has a fault.

What to do:

If it comes on with the electric parking brake fault lamp:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Park and switch off the ignition.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If it comes on with the STOP and ABS lamps:

  • Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) warning lamp icon

This is the orange ABS lamp. When it stays on steadily, the anti-lock braking system has a fault. Your normal brakes still work.

What to do:

  • Drive carefully at a reduced speed.
  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop straight away.

Dynamic stability control (DSC/ASR)

Dynamic stability control (DSC/ASR) warning lamp icon

This is the orange DSC/ASR lamp. When it flashes, the system is working to improve traction and keep the car stable if it loses grip or starts to leave its line. When it stays on steadily, the DSC/ASR system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp flashes:

  • This is normal. The system is helping you keep grip and control.

If the lamp stays on steadily:

  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Engine autodiagnosis system

Engine autodiagnosis system warning lamp icon

This is the orange engine diagnosis lamp. When it flashes, the engine management system has a fault and the catalytic converter could be destroyed. When it stays on steadily, the emission control system has a fault.

What to do:

If the lamp flashes:

  • Have the car checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on steadily:

  • The lamp should go off once the engine is started.
  • If it stays on, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop straight away.

AdBlue® additive (BlueHDi Diesel)

AdBlue® additive (BlueHDi Diesel) warning lamp iconAdBlue® additive (BlueHDi Diesel) warning lamp iconAdBlue® additive (BlueHDi Diesel) warning lamp iconAdBlue® additive (BlueHDi Diesel) warning lamp icon

This is the AdBlue® lamp on BlueHDi Diesel versions, and it always comes with a beep and a message. If it stays on when you switch on the ignition, you have between 350 miles (600 km) and 1500 miles (2400 km) of driving range left. If it flashes with the SERVICE lamp, you have between 0 and 350 miles (600 km) left, or, if the message says starting is prevented, the AdBlue® tank is empty and the legally required system stops the engine from starting.

What to do:

If it stays on with 350 to 1500 miles left:

  • Have the AdBlue® tank topped up as soon as possible, either at a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop, or by doing it yourself.

If it flashes with 0 to 350 miles left:

  • Top up the AdBlue® tank to avoid a breakdown, either at a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop, or by doing it yourself.

If it flashes and starting is prevented:

  • Top up the AdBlue® tank before the engine will start, either at a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop, or by doing it yourself.
  • You must add at least 3.8 litres of AdBlue®.

SCR emissions control system (BlueHDi Diesel)

SCR emissions control system (BlueHDi Diesel) warning lamp icon

This is the SCR emissions control lamp on BlueHDi Diesel versions. It comes on when you switch on the ignition, together with the SERVICE and engine diagnosis lamps, a beep and a message. If it stays on, a fault has been found in the SCR system. If it flashes with a driving range message, the fault is confirmed and you can drive up to 650 miles (1 100 km) before the engine is stopped from starting. If it flashes after that limit, the engine will no longer start.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on steadily:

  • The alert goes away once the exhaust emissions are back to normal levels.

If it flashes with a driving range message:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop straight away to avoid a breakdown.

If it flashes and the engine will not start:

  • Call a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop so the engine can be started again.

Airbags

Airbags warning lamp icon

This is the orange airbag lamp. It normally comes on for a few seconds when you switch on the ignition and then goes off. If it stays on steadily, one of the airbag or seat belt pretensioner systems has a fault.

What to do:

If it comes on briefly at switch-on:

  • The lamp should go off once the engine is started.
  • If it stays on, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If the lamp stays on steadily:

  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Water in Diesel

Water in Diesel warning lamp icon

This is the orange water in Diesel lamp. When it stays on steadily, there is water in the Diesel fuel filter, which could damage the injection system.

What to do:

  • Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop straight away.

Under-inflation

Under-inflation warning lamp iconUnder-inflation warning lamp icon

This is the tyre under-inflation lamp, and it can come on in two ways. If it stays on steadily, the pressure in one or more tyres is too low. If it flashes and then stays on together with the Service lamp, the tyre pressure monitoring system has a fault or a wheel sensor is not detected, so low pressure may not be picked up.

What to do:

If the lamp stays on steadily:

  • Check your tyre pressures as soon as possible.
  • Ideally, check them when the tyres are cold.

If it flashes and then stays on with the Service lamp:

  • Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

If You're Not Sure

If you are not sure what a lamp means, note whether it is steady or flashing, read any message on the multifunction screen and check the relevant section of your handbook. If a lamp stays on after the engine has started, check it before you drive off, and if you are still unsure, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.

Most orange lamps on your Peugeot 3008 are there to give you time to act before a small problem becomes a bigger one. Take note of what you see, follow the steps above and stop somewhere safe whenever the guidance tells you to.
