Peugeot 2008 Warning Lamps: Blue and Green Warnings

What the green, blue and black indicator lamps on the Peugeot 2008 and e-2008 mean, from HADC and Ready to drive to lights and gear lock.

Not every lamp on your Peugeot 2008's dashboard is a warning. Green, blue and white/grey symbols mostly confirm that something is switched on: your lights, a driver assistance system or a hybrid feature. Knowing them means you won't worry over a symbol that's simply doing its job. This guide covers the indicator lamps on the second-generation 2008 and e-2008 (2019 on), with the official Peugeot 2008 owner's handbook as our reference.

The e-2008 adds a few warnings of its own, mostly about the traction battery and charging, so we've noted where a lamp only applies to electric or hybrid versions.

Green Indicator Lamps

Green means "on and working". None of these lamps signal a fault. They confirm that something you've switched on, or the car has switched on automatically, is active.

Hill Assist Descent Control

Hill Assist Descent Control holds a low speed on steep downhill slopes, for example on a muddy track or a steep slipway.

How it looks What it means
Steady The system is on, but isn't working yet (gradient, gear or speed not right)
Flashing The system is braking the car; the brake lights come on during the descent
Grey Paused because you're going too fast. Slow to below 19 mph (30 km/h)

Stop & Start (Petrol or Diesel)

  • Steady: the car has stopped and Stop & Start has switched the engine off to save fuel. It restarts as soon as you release the brake (automatic) or press the clutch (manual)
  • Flashing briefly: the engine can't stop this time, or it has restarted automatically, for example to keep the cabin warm or the battery charged

Vehicle Ready to Drive (Electric)

With no engine noise, it's not always obvious that a plug-in hybrid or electric Peugeot is on. This lamp, with a chime, confirms the car is ready to drive (and on electric versions that heating and cooling are available). It goes out above about 3 mph (5 km/h), comes back when you stop, and goes off when you switch off and get out.

Lane Positioning Assist

Peugeot 2008 Lane Positioning Assist warning light

This lamp shows lane positioning assist is active and all its conditions are met. It keeps the car at your chosen position in the lane, usually alongside adaptive cruise control. Keep your hands on the wheel: it's an aid, not autopilot.

Automatic Wiping

Automatic wiping is on. A rain sensor behind the windscreen adjusts the wiper speed to the amount of rain. Switch it off before you go through a car wash.

Direction Indicators

The green arrows flash, with a ticking sound, when you indicate. If an arrow flashes noticeably faster than usual, a bulb or LED on that side has probably failed. Check it, because a faulty indicator is an MOT failure in the UK.

Sidelamps

Your sidelamps (sidelights or parking lights) are on. They're for parking in poorly lit areas or as a backup. Don't drive at night with only your sidelights on; use dipped beam.

Dipped Beam Headlamps

Dipped beam (low beam) is on. This is the normal setting for driving at night and in poor visibility. On cars with automatic lighting, it switches on by itself when it gets dark.

Automatic Main Beam

This lamp shows automatic main beam is switched on (activated via the touch screen, with the lighting stalk set to AUTO). A windscreen camera switches between main and dipped beam depending on traffic and street lighting. You can override it at any time.

Blue Indicator Lamps

Blue is reserved for the main beam (high beam) indicator. If you can see it, so can oncoming drivers, so dip your lights for other road users.

Main Beam Headlamps

The blue lamp shows your main beam (high beam) is on. Dip it for oncoming traffic and when you're following another car, so you don't dazzle the driver.

Black/White (Grey) Indicator Lamps

On digital instrument panels, white or grey symbols show the status of driver assistance systems: a grey lamp usually means "switched on but not available right now", while a white or coloured one means "working".

Foot on the Brake

This lamp is a reminder to press the brake pedal. You'll typically see it when you try to move the gear selector out of P or N, or release the parking brake, without your foot on the brake. Press the brake firmly and try again.

Automatic Gearbox (EAT8) / Drive Selector Locked (Electric)

This lamp means the automatic gearbox selector (or drive selector on electric versions) is locked. Press the Unlock button on the selector to release it.

A Quick Tip

If a symbol you don't recognise appears in red or orange, it's a warning rather than an indicator. Check the other guides in this series, or the handbook, before you assume it's harmless.
